I plan to buy a Blackberry this weekend and really was looking into the Torch on a 3yr student plan.
Ive never had a Blackberry before and Im wondering if I should invest the Torch or go with a Bold 9700.
Also, the plan would include 500mb of data. What would that cover specifically, say page wise.

Stick with the 9700 for now. Fantastic device. RIM is not one of the better brands for their t/s devices. 500mb will cover about 95% of users. You should be fine...just don't stream on it!

First of all do NOT buy a 9700 right now, as they are end of life. Wait a few weeks for the 9780, which I believe has more memory and OS6 stock.
I have a bold 9000 and had a chance to try the Torch last week. It really is a great device, despite all the negativity it receives. It does what it's good at very very well, and the form factor allows for more flexibility in areas such as web browsing and UI. The torch is also very solid feeling.
I would go for the torch for sure over the bold.
The price for the torch will probably be coming down slightly in the next few weeks.
It's also on every carrier so you get alot of choice. The Telus student plans look pretty good. Up until a couple of weeks ago the had my10 and a free 6gb upgrade but that seems to have disapeared off the website.

the torch looks good and agree that getting the 9700 now would not be good. wait for BlackBerry 6
