I was just wondering if anyone has the scoop on when/if the Android 2.2 OS will be available for the Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant on the Bell Network?
When I purchased my phone, the rep at the store said there was a big update coming, but didn't say when. I recently sent an email to Customer Service through the Bell website to inquire about it, and they played dumb in their response (I find I can never get straight answers from Bell on things like this).
I'd jump all over an Android 2.2 update if it's available! Please advise if you can.
I'm running 2.2 rate now JPK rom for the Samsung S that was leaked and it works great its an amazing rom.. Now the official release is the middle of this October.

Is the official release going to be supported by Bell? Is there a chance they won't release it themselves - it may be something I have to do on my own, like you did?
I'm willing to wait, I just want to know if it's happening at all.

I'm sitting on my hands waiting for the official release. The whole app/data backup/restore process on the uploads is too much of a pain to be doing it a lot. Was kind of sad when Sept 23 ETA came and went but oh well.
I believe I read somewhere the Samsung releases are direct from Samsung by device, not carrier specific releases but I'm not sure how that works. The Samsung KIES app is how they're all popping out so far. Haven't seen an OTA update yet. Then again i'm using an unlocked bell phone on rogers.

^ I say 3 months from now
Sure Bell calls Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant. When talking about flashing with different firmwares and such... let's be specific.
Technically Bell's Galaxy S is... i9000m.

All my information states that the Update needs to be done on your own through Samsung Kies. There was an Inter-office memo released to Corporate and 3rd party dealers stating that Reps and Dealers are under no circumstances permitted to update the Phones. The reason being that this is a Samsung Device, and a Samsung Update, It's not Bell Software.

I wish more manufacturers operated this way. Relying on both the manufacturer AND the carrier to collaborate on carrier-specific software can only ever lead to delays. Blackberry is a great example of carrier perma-lag on updates.
Heres hoping for the dream of generic OS updates finally coming to fruition... one day.
