If the Storm is coming to Rogers I'd like to know sooner than later as I'm eligible for upgrade right away and leaning towards the iphone at this point. I'd be willing to wait a bit if the Storm isn't too far off....

I saw pics on BBCool of the Rogers Storm... so I think it will hopefully come soon. The leaked PP said 1H2009 though...

Nobody really knows tho, its all rumor and speculation... i'd stay away from the iphone, i mean... no cut and paste, no custom ringtones, no video camera, no landscape qwerty, etc, etc, etc

those are good points. I honestly don't have the patience to wait and see if the Storm comes out or not. Maybe N95 now lol

When Rogers decides to release the device hopefully they can have a proper working Storm OS so that no body needs to go through what CDMA Storm owners had to do. Upgrading their OS becuase of bugs and issues.

I've decided not too wait for a storm, I want a cool and feature packed phone but I also want something reliable and tested. Maybe next time around I'll give it a try.

It depends on what your primary features are going to be. For instance i'm waiting for slightly better data plans so i can stream sports on my phone while travel to and from school. I was going to settle on the n95 or e71 because i'm using email more and more and would like a smart phone that an smatER phone but i think i;m going to wait it out to see what the nokia xpress music has to offer vs. the iphone or the n96. I mean if you have time to wait i think by may that should be rogers top phones: Bold, Curve 8900, Storm,Iphone, N96, Xpress music and E71.

I do have a trick up my sleeve..... My fiancee is on my account and she will be due for an upgrade in the spring sometime and since I buy her a phone everytime a present is required (i suck at shopping) she won't need a new one and I'll use her discount to get myself the newest baddest machine out there lol

We all got to be checking if we have any upgrades available for the up coming devices. I am really looking forward to checking out the Nokia devices that will be coming because it has been a long time since i have used one of those devices. I am looking at the Xpress Music phone because it is engineered for everything i do on a cell phone. But i still will use my bb, Xpress Music will be second phone.

Well, if you jailbreak, you can do all of that stuff.
Also, adding custom ring tones is easy. Just have to make .m4r files, import them into iTunes and you're set.

I've heard of jailbreaking but not too sure what it means exactly??

iPhones come with a restricted filesystem. So, you can't really edit anything because the phone won't allow you too. When you jailbreak your iPhone, you remove the restriction off of the filesystem and can edit files freely... adding themes, custom sound packs, custom software (that isn't in the app store), etc,.
Jailbreaking is easy to do - the programs walk you through step by step - and also is a preface for unlocking your device.

So other than the touchscreen is the storm that much or any better than the bold??

well, its hard to say, the current storm is worse than the bold, other than the large clickable touchscreen. But when the storm comes to rogers it will be a different model for their gsm network, and it will no doubt include 3g and wifi.

My Wife works for Bell Mobility in a call centre, and she has had calls from BB users that have tried the bold on Rogers and have purchased the Storm, and she has said most of them want to be on Rogers with the Bold.
Mind you, as stated, because of problems with the current Storm (internal convo's between my wife and her friend at RIM and Bell) the Storm should not have been released yet. Her friend said the Storm is great, but could have been better if the launch happened in March 09 once all the quirks are sorted out.
I believe personally that the Storm won't be as good as the Bold. The storm #1 is a consumer toy, and the Bold is a prosumer all in 1 device.
I personally have the Bold, and I have a friend with the Storm, and after 2 days with the Storm (he has had blackberries for about 4 years now) he is selling it, and he wants to jump from Telus to Rogers for the Bold.
The only advantage the Storm has is a touch screen, and higher res camera. Other than that, they are specd the same, 3G, Wifi so its hard to say.

Keep in mind that 3G with Telus or Bell isn't as fast as 3G with Rogers. Telus/Bell 3G isn't true 3G, its just an upgraded EVDO. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Nope you are absolutley right, and remember about a week ago or maybe 2 weeks ago on here, it was reported that Telus is in big trouble for their claim of the fastest 3G network. they don't even have 3G!!!!

No, you're both absolutely wrong. Rogers has 3G GSM HSPDA deployed, while Bell/Telus have 3G CDMA Rev A set up. Both networks are 3G (which stands for 3rd generation) technologies, but they work differently. In reality, Bell and Telus have had 3G for years but they didn't make a big deal about it. Take into consideration 3G coverage area as well. If you don't live in the major city areas, your Rogers doesn't have 3G covereage.

Depends on the situation.
If you have a strong broadband connection, then 3G probably won't be faster than WiFi.
If you have a weak broadband connection, then 3G probably might be a bit faster. For example, at my girlfriend's place, she has some "broadband lite" internet that has a downward bandwidth cap of 500kpbs. After doing speedtests on my iPhone and Blackberry, I get substantially faster downspeeds than that (usually 600-900kpbs - and she lives in a bad area for Rogers coverage).
WiFi can also be subject to network congestion as well. At places like universities where everyone is trying to access information through the same connection, it can slow the network down substantially (in some cases, to Edge related speeds).
