I just noticed my SMS messages on my Samsung Vibrant are coming in showing as exactly 4 hours older than they actually are. Did a bit of google research on this problem and it appears to be a very common issue that has been kicking around on most phones/os's (but only on Rogers/Fido) since 2008. There is an Android app "SMSFixTimes" that partially fixes it but not very effectively.

Does anyone have any idea what the cause of this issue is and why Rogers seems to be the only carrier on the planet that has it?

If its something specific to the Samsung Galaxy S, I wonder if this is one of the reasons why its not yet released?

Thoughts?

I think the issue seems to be related to the timestamp put on the SMS when it is received by the Rogers servers. I am pretty sure that received SMSs are stamped at the server side not on the phone.

So.... I think it is a carrier issue as opposed to a phone issue.

I have the same problem.
Would love to see it working properly cause tracking sms conversations is a pain with incorrect timestamps.

I'm runing SMS Time Fix (from the android market) and it seems to kind of fix the issue, but not always.

I also tried SMS Fix Time (different app) but this didn't seem to work at all except for the very first message in a thread, and even then not consistently.

Googling this issue, people have been complaining about it on Rogers since 2008. It also appears that Rogers is the only carrier on the planet that has this issue. Very odd.

Ok...I am glad I am not the only one...I just got the vibrant today and noticed the same thing...Is that a product of being an unlocked phone or are all the Samung Galaxy phones like that?

It seems Samsung did not learn from HTC and included the 1.5 time stamp bug. It will probably be fixed in the 2.2 rom don't worry either that or check XDA they will usually have a fix

Thanks. I haven't dug into XDA forums about this yet. After some more time, I have to say that the SMS time fix app from Android marketplace also isn't effective at resolving the issue.

Same thing has been happening to me. I just got an acer liquid E last week, my first android phone, and all my SMS conversations are all over the place. I will however try the app from android. I wonder if this is an issue only on android phones with rogers?

If the app doesn't work, rogers is getting another "nice" call from me and they better solve the problem.

This also happens on unlocked phones. Rogers has to fix the issue you are having, since you got the phone from them (I'm ***uming). Me and a friend have been having the same issue, but our phones are "not officially supported" (Samsung Wave and Nokia e71). I've used this phone in Europe and middle east and the US in the past year with no such issues... I guess Rogers network is not using a default standard? or they filter out the phones that aren't locked to them (like they do for wap browsing)?... i don't know, it's just frustrating

I tried both that and the different-but-named-almost-the-same SMSFixTime.

Both reduced the issue a bit (ie. first text in a string) but nothing totally fixed it.

After noticing this problem on my Omnia II when I first got it, did some research and it looks like this problem has been around for years. From vague memory I recall seeing threads dating back to 2007 or earlier on the same topic... don't expect a fix anytime soon. It's a problem on the carrier side and happens to phones of various brands and operating systems.

This is very strange. I'm with Rogers on a Samsung Focus (WP7) and it does not have this issue. Are we sure it is on their side?

I had this problem with another phone on the Fido network before.

Well, this issue will rarely come up with actual Rogers phones, but it definitely seems to be on their side. Just over the past year, I've used my phone in Canada, the Netherlands, Egypt and the US and have not gotten this issue like I do when I'm on the rogers network. For some reason, SMS's always have the wrong times here and I've tested it on multiple unlocked devices. I doubt they're going to fix it as they can just say that when using an unlocked phone (even if that phone is also in their lineup) they cannot guarantee its compatibility...

This type of thing is common on HSPA networks. TELUS, Bell, Rogers, Wind, etc all experience similar issues.

I never really pay attention to time stamps on my phone...if it gets to me, then I'm good to go. :)

I wonder how this even happens when time is very important to how GSM networks operate.
