I canceled my caller id package because I can't believe how much I am suppose to pay rogers for it ~$120 yr x 3 family phones) ? When I did, I lost caller id but I also lost the ability to log the number of what calls came through and to call them back. I was under the impression that caller id is a service (from wikipedia) "that transmits a caller's number to the called party's telephone equipment during the ringing signal, or when the call is being set up but before the call is answered." Which means to me before I pick up - but after I pick up - if I do - that I should get the number on my smart phone and it should be logged by the software on it. I note with rogers I have lost all account of an incoming number, even when I pick up. Is this really how it should work or are we getting ripped off by Canadian telcos.

I think you're looking at it too hard. The signal to reveal the caller ID is transmitted -when- you have the caller ID feature. The rip-off, if anything, isn't in that you're already getting caller ID, it's that the margin on the feature is absurd. You're talking in the thousands of percents of margin.

It's my understanding that in most countries, charging for caller ID is unheard of and is as$umed to be a part of the phone working normally.

We're getting screwed just like we get screwed by being forced to accept 3-year contracts on phones that were released a year ago in the rest of the world. Canada is the world's dumping ground for phones and phone contracts :(.

p.s. how's that for a depressing first post?

edit: lol wtf they censor the word as$ume on this forum? gg swear filter
