Best Android phone? I'm relatively new to Android but I think that's a tough question to answer...

Are we talking "pure" Android, without any manufacturer and/or phone company modifications (aka bloatware)? I think ALOT of hardcore users would much prefer this option but it's a rare animal nowadays... I heard the Google Nexus is sold out... and Nexus two is still a twinkle in your mother's eye. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong on this.

Forsaking that option, you are stuck with various Android re-workings to suit manufacturer/phone company needs and wants. I would venture to say most of these are stylistic or financially oriented. The debate is heated here. Everyone who purchases a particular smartphone is going to be stuck with the "clothing" that these middlemen put on the phone. Fashions change and so do the settings.

The other question is: which version of Android are we talking about? A lot of people are looking forward to 2.2 (Froyo) because of Flash support, etc. Will Bell roll-out 2.2 for the Samsung Galaxy Vibrant? Samsung says they are providing it, but I haven't heard anything from Bell. SIGH. Other people are perfectly happy with an older version, but not me.

Best Android phone then? I'd go with the latest iteration in the Samsung Vibrant in Canada (if it gets 2.2) and the Samsung Epic in US (Sprint) if it's possible to make it work up here. As usual, it all comes down to personal preference though. Happy looking!

Asking the question 'what is the best Android phone' is similar to asking the question 'what is the best Ford car' - when you do this you really limit yourself.....

Probably the Samsung Epic 4G. It has the top processing and graphics, plus all the features you could want, or not want. The HTC (Tmobile) G2 will be coming out, and I don't think it'll match the Epic for speed, but it just might have some neat tricks on the software side that other phones won't get for a little while. If you don't want the keyboard, then the Samsung Vibrant, but you lose the front-facing camera too. :/

lol:p dont be fooled by the 4g terms. real 4 g is 1-2 years away. dont spend your money on these fake 4g phones. In my opinion, every phone has its pros and cons, ask urself what u really want in a phone. I say 1ghz processor and 512ram phones are the way to go, so you can upgrade to gingerbread in the future

It would be nice to know why he thinks it's the best Android device. People buy phones for different reasons. For example, I like a physical qwerty keyboard, so many Android devices are not in the running for me.

I like the look of the HTC Desire Z.

Motorola Olmpius if we are going for U.S. Based Cell phones. They have a Tegra 2 dual processer and blows most phones out of the water.

Perhaps the HTC Merge if you want a qwerty keyboard.

I cannot wait for the Nexus S, it is going to be the best phone thus far! Of course then you are buying a phone outright and who knows when it will be available in Canada!

Nexus S and HTC Desire Z are probably on top right now

Honestly, the best Android phone is the one you decide to buy. If you did your research, you've determined that whatever you buy meets most of your needs (cost, features, etc) and that your willing to live with the features your phone doesn't have.

The best overall is probably the Nexus S right now from a technical standpoint. Can't beat pure Android on an awesome processor!

That being said, the best available device in Canada is likely the Desire Z. I haven't used one myself but the keyboard, plus awesome next-gen processor, and the good sized screen seem pretty hard to beat right now.

Out of all the android phones ive used (milestone, desire, lg eve, magic, dream, captivate etc) I still return to my good old nexus one.

Main reason im sticking with it is simply ease of changing firmware/radio/kernel and the amount of custom stuff out there.Im running 720p camera with 1113 CPU speed and undervolting to save battery

Sure many other android phones offer similar options but in my experience never as easily as on the Nexus 1. In general no need for adb commands or even if something isnt working with customer rom or kernel you can just change back.

Also in terms of radio upgrades it wont cause issues with losing 850/1900 3G. Currently im using the latest Korean radio with no issues.

I know many people who have lost 850 3G after using certain ROMs or even bricked their devices but N1 was built to hack.

I hope the nexus S becomes the same after a while out here.Dont like the fact you cant expand the memory on it. Makes it harder to backup your data externally

I have to agree. It is the cleanest android phone I have used. I have hopes for the Nexus s but I suspect it will be the lack of bloatware that will make it look good. It doesn't have the leading edge in hardware.

It's almost identical in terms of specs with a few modifications. Plus from all the reviews many people say it feels cheap

If you mean the Nexus S then no but if you are near the border simply stop by a best buy in the US.

May want to call them to see if its in stock

The best Android phone is the one that's on a boat, heading to a warehouse while your at the store buying your latest android phone.

Desire Z is definitely the best Android available in Canada right. In terms of how well built it is and for the overall hardware.

Galaxy S series look cheap ( except the Captivate ) and I hate Samsung's version of Android. Yeah the screen and colors look nice, but I much prefer Sense UI; it's much more complete and versatile.

I thought I needed a physical keypad when I got my Milestone a ways back. I found myself using the on screen one so much I no longer think I need the physical keypad.

So for the best android phone available in canada your first choice comes to do u need a physical keyboard?Once that is decided you can then choose based on hardware (network isnt an issue that much anymore since unlock codes are easy to come buy)

nexus one is available to a few providers like wind and videotron if you need a phone with them. Its stock firmware and very easy to do whatever you want with it.

If you absolutely need 2.2 you are limited currently to acer liquid and Desire Z (not counting the galaxy tab)

if 2.2 isnt a must then at that point your choices get bigger depending on what specs you want.

Don't forget about most of the Galaxy S line and the Desire as well.

Rogers should have it's captivate 2.2 out soon™
