Why oh why Rogers??? Last year I was able to order through customer service and had piece of mind that my iphone 3gs was in the mail, this year though they stupidly have not allowed any orders through customer service and you must go to a Rogers store location to get an iphone 4 at the reduced contract price. This wouldn't be too bad if they had ample stock, which they said was the case since they were not taking thousands of orders through customer service and instead are directing all hardware to the stores but upon calling my Rogers store in Mississauga hours before they opened on the 30th about their stock quantity they only had a lousy 20 phones and said they already had at least 15 lined up, so I jumped on the first bus up to them to get into line and find unluckily I am #21 and out of luck. Called around to the rest of the stores which wouldn't answer until very close until they opened or at opening (not sure why this location had employees hours before opening, must be for the lousy 20 iphone 4 launch they had) and was told exactly similar stories that that had very minimal stock never breaking like 30 and the lineups all have the stock spoken for. I don't even mind waiting a couple weeks like even last year through customer service I didn't even get my 3gs in the first shipment and had to wait a month for the back order and for it to hit my doorstep and even though the wait was unbearable I still had the piece of mind that my order was in and it was on its way, I also had the option of trying their stores and if I got lucky I could cancel my back order but of course none of the stores never had more than 10 phones when they would get a new shipment and everytime they got the 10 they were all spoken for, seems like the same pathetic supply this year without no alternative to get on a waiting list, so horribly stupid and might be time to see of the other providers are following the same stupid routine.

You do realize that Roger's has little choice in how much stock they were able to provide, right? If they had it their way, they would have bought all the iPhone 4's allocated to Canada so that their competitors would have had none. Unfortunately, supplies aren't that large, so just like everyone else, it's FIRST COME FIRST SERVE. If you don't put the effort into being first, why should you deserve to be?

All I'm saying is they way they are doing it is stupid this year, last year you were able to order through customer service and they evidently serviced thousands through CS and even if you didn't get though on the first order and got back ordered at least you had the piece of mind knowing its coming. This year you have no choice but to go to the store and wait hours on end just to find out they don't have enough stock and even worse from some of the forum i've read is they were turning people away who were first cause their stupid HUP tool was broken and couldnt upgrade anyone. What they have led people to believe is because there is no CS upgrade this year that they were directing that stock to the stores so they should have lots of stock to provide to the public which just is not the case, from some forum post I've even read a number of stores only have about 5 lousy phones when I consider 20 to be pretty low. I don't know why you have your head up Rogers *** but my point is very valid, I don't mind waiting as long as I know my order has been taken and will be directed to me when stock is available its just this having to chase down the phone for over a month, calling stores, racing to the stores, being unlucky and turned away from the stores, just to repeat the cycle over again. It just seems truly stupid they cancelled CS orders this year, stores are for the impatient people who will fight tooth and nail to get it ASAP, I don't mind waiting weeks as long as I know my order has been place and will be provided when stock is available. Now take your head out of Rogers *** and smarten up.

I agree. I couldn't be more disappointed with this launch. Last year in fact Rogers had limited stock but I still placed a HUP order through customer service and got it next day. So why do it differently this year? They say they are prioritizing hardware upgrade orders so why leave out online/cs orders?

On top of that, even Apple Store's quantity were limited. It sold out the first day in Ottawa, meanwhile the Toronto Apple Store had many, many units even through Saturday.

So don't give me this limited stock BS. Rogers and Apple both screwed up on this and it could have been handled far better.

I still don't have an iPhone 4 BTW.

From what I've heard all HUPs require going into a store now. I'm guessing they had too many people doing HUPs and then deciding that they didn't like the phone and returning it right away. Thats less likely to happen when you're forced to physically go into a store where you can try out the phone before you buy it.

Wait...you're telling me that they should have had them through their CS channel, further thinning out the stock that the stores had and making it that much harder to get an iPhone 4 at launch? Brilliant idea. The fact of the matter is that supplies are very limited so they don't have the luxury of putting it in -every- distribution channel. I never said that they shouldn't be available through CS (that would be great, -so as long as- supply was adequate), I simply provided a rationale as to why may not be the best choice because of the scarcity.

Tip: The people at stores are commissioned sales people. MANY of the reps will hold one for you provided that you tell them it's a new contract. Then turn around and tell them you decided to upgrade.

And really, telling someone to smarten up while using 7th grade level grammar is like RIM telling Apple to pick up it's touch screen technology. Though, I wouldn't put that past you.

The difference in stock between one location to another is a matter of ***et allocation, not overall supply. Toronto would have many more units simply because of population. If they had adequate supply, they'd stock every store with plenty so they could maximize sales.

I think so, it does say if you signed with ROGERS before June 7th, you're eligible.

Firstly your reading level and comprehension must be at a very low level as I've stated many times I do not mind waiting on a back order list just for the piece of mind of having my order place and will be shipped when available, CS orders not being an alternative leaves us with no recourse other than running around trying to hit the lottery and wasting our valuable time. Some of us have responsibilities and don't have the luxury of this time consuming wild goose chase effort and personally would be easily appeased with just having my order placed and back ordered. Secondly I've called around to numerous stores and this change of strategy obviously wasn't very effective as stock is just as horribly low as last year with maybe the addition of a couple pieces of stock, so even with last year's sub-par effort it was still wildly more successful than this year and gave many of us piece of mind that our merchandise was en route. Lastly its quite funny how many fan boys/trolls can't properly flame someone so they always point out spelling errors and if you had half a brain you would have noticed they were typos and not a spelling errors as if I couldn't spell the word which in the entirely lengthy post there were only two in the first sentence where I accidentally wrote 'they' instead of 'the' and the other being I forgot the letter 'r' in through even though I spelled it correctly 8 words previous, sorry that this is a relaxed public forum and did not feel the need to proof read before posting, but I digress and am at least happy that it gave your day some meaning. Your thoughts on having Roger ***ociates holding an iphone 4 via a phone call request is just plain stupid, why on earth would they take the chance and withhold it from other consumers in front of him chomping at the bit to purchase that phone as a new sign up just so he can help out someone whom he does not know and could possibly screw him over and 'change their mind' as you put it or even worse not show up at all. It's remarks like these that make me wonder about your intelligence and not mine due to a typo, I doubt you could social engineer a free hamburger at McDonalds let alone a risky hold (which I'm not even sure they are permitted to do anyhow) on an iphone 4. Anyhow I was only pointing out my disappointment with this years launch and from my observation there seems to be very little improvement to the stores stock compared to last year with customer service taking many orders. Wish they would have at least let their first shipment be directed to the stores and those who don't have the time and are willing to wait have the option of being able to place an order through customer service and have it fulfilled on the back order. Someone has already shared the same disappointment on the forum and I know there are many more who share these same thoughts.

Amen. You're right this year has to be the most pitiful iPhone launch in the world. At least you ROGERS customers had the opportunity to upgrade. At, the informative TELUS over here we were revealed prices at 10 AM, on launch day. That's not all though, they released their 5GB + 1 promo later that day. So for those that had already bough any iPhone before the promo were most likely out of luck. Dude just like you I wish Apple/Big 3 would've worked more closely together. That way we'd have a very successful launch. This launch was as scattered as a room full of legos.

Crap sorry to hear you guys haven't had much luck either. I'm gonna give Rogers a ring tomorrow and see if I can get a status update and if things are looking bleak I'm going to start calling around to the competitors and if any of them can do sign up via customer service and throw me on back order they will definitely have my business.

Rogers told me they aren't restocking for another 3 months. WTF? I'm not sure if you'll find any but best of luck man :D

Yes you are right...I work for them and too may people were returning phones.....it was not so bad in the old days however now with the touch screen phones...people only realize once they have used it for a bit that they don`t like them (especially the older crowd)...We used to do HUP`s every 12 months and now with the crazy prices we can only upgrade every 24....So that is a long time to be stuck with a phone you don`t like....There were too many complaints so they chose to push it off to the retailers...As a call center employee it sucks because of the drastic drop in commission however for the customer I think it is a good idea in the long run.....A phone is no longer a small purchase and getting the chance to hold it in your hand and try it out...I don`t know about you however spending the money it cost for a phone these days without even holding it in your hand seems foolish...Just my 2 cents...thanks
