Hi, I am currently with Rogers and my contract is up in 2 weeks. I got a call from Rogers Promotion and the deal they are offering me is MORE than what I am currently paying. My bill right now is $71.

Basic Plan $20 250 minutes
Add-On $ 5 Additional 50 minutes, Caller ID & Voice Maill, 2500 texts and early evening starting at 6pm and unlimited evening and weekend.
Data Plan $30 6GB
Regulatory Fee $6.95
911 Fee $0.75
Total 62.70
Tax (13%) 8.16
Total 70.86

I was told that if I wanted to get rid of the Regulatory Fee, I had to get a new plan and not my Basic Plan. The Basic Plan for Rogers starts at $25 for 200 minutes. And $10 for my 'new' Add-on, which is the same as before.

I'm going to try and call Customer Retention to see if they can give me a better deal. Caused if I'm signing my life for another 3 years, I want a better plan than the one I'm currently with.

I've been with Rogers for the past 10 years.

Wind Mobile's everything plan is enticing at only $40 with no regulatory fees.

I am in the GTA area and I want to know is WIND worth it now that it's been in Canada for 3+ years?

Is Wind data truly unlimited? Is there any trottling after a certain amount of data used? Have you noticed a drop in reception when you're in your Wind Area?

Thanks,
-Roze-

I believe Wind throttles down to 512kbps after 5gb. I've heard mixed reviews about their reception.

As for Rogers, I got the following from them without too much hassle, you could probably get a little better...

200 minutes
My10 Canada Wide
Unlimited Texting
6pm Evenings + Weekends
6Gb
Caller ID
Voicemail
$64.78/month + tax

For me, it works out to $74.50/month after tax, in Toronto I believe it would be $73.20 or so.

You should be able to get something like this or better without too much hassle.

OMG, so this is how Rogers is rewarding customers? You get to pay MORE for same cell package? Not happy to hear this....I'm on the verge of trying to negotiate another contract myself. I've got a year left on my original contract and an early hardware upgrade fee of around $100.00. I was hoping to just pay that and the hardware charge and get the same or better package...

I've been looking at Wind too. I've had some friends and relatives on Wind and everyone I know is happy with Wind. If Rogers doesn't offer me the same or better, I might buy a better phone outright and switch to Wind in a year.

Is it safe to assume you spoke to Rogers retentions dept after promotions dept?

A co-worker just renewed and got better package at Rogers for same price he was paying before. Guess you just have to keep trying... If I was totally out of my contract, I would switch to Wind for sure

p.s, i just renewed my contract yesterday with Rogers for the Galaxy Nexus. I started at Futureshop where they quoted me that Rogers wanted $390 for me to upgrade. I am two years into my 3 year contract and early upgrade fee is $105 and rest was going to be cost of phone and activiation fee. I came home and spoke to Rogers sales, then said I was going to cancel my current phone and they put me through to retentions. Ended up costing me $200 for phone and early upgrade fee. I'm also getting to keep my current monthly retentions plan which is pretty good. Maybe I could have worked them down even more but I just wanted to upgrade and get it over with.

I just called Customer Retention and this will be my new plan if I signed with them:

My new plan, I'll have the $5 Add-on taken off and everything is the same except it's 5pm evening, 100 bonus minutes and Rogers to Rogers. The total with the fees will be $57.75. and plus tax it's $64.

WIND's plan is in Wind zone, unlimited CA wide minutes and international texts, caller ID and voicemail and unlimited data (soft capped at 5GB) for $40. So with tax, that's about $45. So I'll save about $20.

I was wondering if you were given this new plan, would you stick with Rogers or go to WIND?

I spend 95% of my time in the GTA.

If you do the math 12x$20=240 , ask yourself is it worth sticking with rogers for $240/year extra. Figure out what are the advantages and disadvantages in staying with rogers. I been using wind for while now and the only place where my service gets interrupted is in underground parking or in some elevators. you can always go on wind plan for a month or two and than switch if you dont like it because there are no contract. That way you can know for sure if wind is better or worse than rogers.
