Some updates:

1) This week I've noticed that the Blackberry Storm is now discontinued at Bell.

2) "Personal" Rate plan "Text and Talk" for a minimum $30/month have increased outgoing texts from 2,500 to unlimited! Which is nice and for no increase in price.

2) Bell has new "Smartphone Combo" Blackberry Plans starting at $40/month with choices of unlimited texting, my5, unlimited facebook and IM. Not bad, and definately cheaper.. Go to bell.ca and click under Rate plans then "Smartphone Combo and Data plans" and you will see the new plans on the page.

I saw on Telus, they now have similar plans. To find the page, go to the telus website then "plans" and you should see 2 promo's/headlines going, click on the 2nd promo and there you will see " $40 Blackberry Social Networking Plan- Learn more"

So let's say for example, the Telus Blackberry 8530 -which is now $25 on a 3-yr contract- if you scroll to the bottom of this page on the Blackberry 8530 Telus page,

it clearly says in tiny print that "‡ Available until March 31, 2010, for clients who activate or renew on a 3 year term with a Smartphone voice and data rate plan of $50 or greater, or on a BlackBerry Social or BlackBerry Email & IM rate plan. TELUS reserves the right to modify eligible rate plans with this offer at any time without advance notice. "

So this must mean that anyone can buy a $25 Blackberry and activate it on a $40/month plan (which has alot of features) on both Bell and Telus? That seems like a good deal to me, besides the fact that no browsing is included in the plans. But hey, for $40 + taxes a month ($45.20), you can't argue with that. It's not bad for people who want a Blackberry and would like to use IM and text alot and don't have to pay a minimum $50/month smartphone plan.

Interesting... hopefully Bell will continue to drop monthly plan costs and make 2 year contracts?! I guess i'm a bit too hopeful:( ...

Good on Bell, no chance of 2-year contract until Rogers and TELUS does it.

Bell is only matching Rogers and Telus offers. Nothing special here.

The Motorola Dext should be out soon, most likely in May or earlier. And perhaps the Storm 2 will be out soon since they recently got rid of the Storm 1, and since TELUS has already launched the Storm 2 on their CDMA network. Or maybe Bell won't release the Storm 2 because it's CDMA and they don't feel it's worth to launch it since their HSPA network? Who knows..

I predict that the Motorola DEXT will be many in a long line of failed products that Bell has failed to peddle (See: Pre, Cleo, Hint, etc.), with the Storm2 doing a little worse than Storm1's. Why bother launching smartphones that aren't leading edge?

I completely agree with you.. I wouldn't get why Bell would release the Storm 2 since it is CDMA and the sales are worse than the original Storm. They would be working backwards if they release it.

is Bell getting the Pearl 9100?

Yes they are, most likely after Telus will, or maybe at the same time as Telus. But the fact is, when Telus will get the 9100, so will Bell. Here is a link about the rumoured 9100 on Telus/Bell:

and as for @cracked, i don't think it will come out that low. Bell will probably start the device at 79.95 or 99.95 on a 3-year contract and within a couple months/weeks (depending on sales) they will drop it to 49.99 like you mentioned.

My ninjas say its coming to Bell pretty soon, its in the inventory system, black, and the 9100 number means HSPA (since CDMA variants are XX30+).
