Hey guys,
just would like to get some feedback as i'm still rockin my BB curve 8310 model from circa 2007 and my contract finally expired back in nov! Time for an upgrade i think,so i'm looking at samsung android phones specifically the S2 (regular version,no LTE,X) as it seems like a really nice device.Just not sure what you think of the longevity of the phone as i would more than likely be riding out the whole term.so what do you think? Should i just go for it (as i can't wait to smash this BB into a million little peices) or hold out a bit longer and see what samsungs got up their sleeves for the new year? (the nexus being not a phone for me personally)
I appreciate the feedback!

That s2 is a good phone and should last you for most of your contract, since in 3 years time android will probably utilize quad core cpu and you will want a quad core phone. But you can always oc your phone cpu when you have a need for it.

There isnt a phone today that you can buy and be certain that it will last for next 3 years, since who knows what kind of innovation 3 years will bring in cellphone world.

Very true.very true...Thanks for the feedback,i was just curious what others thought.Sorry,"oc" the phones cpu? Does that mean replace? If so i had no idea you could do that, also on the same note can you buy just the cpu chip? i didn't think you could.Maybe im misunderstanding.

What i meant by oc the cpu is overclock the cpu, you cant replace just the cpu in a phone like you do on a pc. I just meant when android gets to a point where the current gs2 hardware might not be able to keep up, you make your phone a little faster by overclocking it.

I think you won't go wrong with the Samsung GS2. I'm walking the same path as you are going from a bb to a android device. Needing some getting use to for the new touchscreen typing instead of the addictive bb physical keypad. With the GS2, get it soon so you can enjoy it sooner rather than longer, plus you'll be able to 'upgrade' sooner rather than later. There will be an upgrade to the GS2 next year, so that'll be like a upgrade in respect to user experience. That's a key bonus.

ohhh,i see.I don't know that much about cell phones man lol i may need to speak to someone who is more tech savy about overclocking but thats interesting though, thanks for that.

Right on,thats great well thanks for the feedback makes me feel bit better, think im going to pick it up on payday, just didnt want to get it and feel like i need to upgrade in few months however considering how long ive had my old curve 8310 now i dont think that would be the case.Would be like going from a old beat up oldsmobile or saturn to a lambo lol

You can get a head start on learning how to root and install custom software/kernel before your phone comes, I posted a link for the best place on the web when it comes to custom Roms for android , just make sure you read everything a few times before attempting anything.

Once you see how nice the screen and the speed of the gs2 is you will think your bb was from the 80s lol.

Ive decided,im picking it up on friday :) Although i just seen that article regarding the SGS3 which kinda angers me but whatever, you cant keep up with mobile technology, especially these days, kinda goes back to what xperiax was saying. You just can't keep up with it, so i'm not going to bother trying lol. This phone will be more than enough for me i think.

Like someone said...it's like jumping from a kia to a lambo ;)
It's different not having the physical keypad to type on, but I'm already just as proficient after about a week on the phone now. Like to know what you think of the phone upon purchase and into your hands :)

You will never be able to get newest and greatest thing. Just get the best available at this time. The SG3 is still rumoured and by the time it gets released, it'll be 9 months from now. Plus since you're getting the GS2, in a few months' time, you'll be updating it's software to ICS, which is like getting a new phone.

The excitement of getting a new phone.

Same here. Just ordered my S2 today from Rogers. They called me up and offered for FREE! BB8700 was OK in its day, but having just a phone no longer cuts it any more.

I also agree with jobber "get it soon so you can enjoy it sooner rather than longer". The Galaxy Note will be FREE in a year and you can get it then as well with money in your pocket and a device today that does just more than phone.

Hey sorry took me while to reply but ive had the SGS2 for about month and a half and i friggin love it! haha Not lookin back now.But yeah im glad i didnt wait.Almost 2 months with it and still finding new things with it everyday, its crazy how they can put so many features into one little device lol! Keep in mind my last phone was 2007 BB so i needed to get with the times, just waiting to see when they plan on releasing ICS for the sgs2 :)

According to Engadget this morning, Samsung Israel tweeted ICS coming to SGS2 in that neck of the woods by middle of March.

SGS3 not being announced until the first half of this year. So no worries.

I'm still holding out that my carrier (Sasktel) will have the Note sometime soon. I have one of my two phones due for an upgrade end of this month. Or hope I won the giveaway here on MobileSyrup.
