I, personally really like Palm WebOS, but it's not that sucessful, and doesn't have that much developer support. The HTC Hero, however runs Android which is very popular. Both phones target someone who's social, and want's to be in touch, but they do it in a different way.

The Hero has over 38000 apps on the Android Market and is getting the update in May from 1.5 to 2.1 which makes the phone similar to the Nexus One in features. Major differences are that the Hero uses a different them (called Sense) and isn't as powerful. Between the Pre and the Hero, one major feature is that the Pre has a hardware keyboard. Personally the keyboard is a big feature for me which is why I opted for the Motorola Milestone. Also, Android devices have more customization options and are not gesture dependent (you can use gestures but you are not FORCED to, my experience with the Pre is the opposite). I vote Hero.

I'd vote neither and recommend the Milestone, or wait for the Sony X10 which was released this week and is getting OS 2.1 in September, that is if you want Android. I love my iPhone and my Blackberry for being social and in touch, but it's all about preference.

I just bought a Palm Pre and really am enjoying it. Looked very hard at the Androids but i wanted to stay with Bell and they only have the one android phone at the moment.

One thing i do not like about Android is the software upgrade situation, there are so many versions of the OS now and you have to wait for the carriers to release them it seems frustrating.

Palm came with an older OS version but once i activated it i got a message saying OS upgrade available and it did it over the air.

At the end of the day my phone is a pleasant distraction, typical non-business user- so i just picked one that appealed to the kid in me and if the company and WebOS goes away i will be not overly put out. Will just have to go pick a new toy to play with.
