I'm considerting getting the Galaxy Q for my wife. It seems pretty close to being a smartphone without being in the smartphone category (according to Fido). It seems to fit with her existing plan (no data) and with WiFi, she can access email and internet while at home or tether off my phone.

I would just like to hear from anyone who have used this phone. Any comments are welcome.

My girlfriend got one this weekend. Even though it does not fall in the "smartphone" category on the Fido website, it is a phone running full Android. You get Gmail synchronization, the market (both Android and Samsung), GPS, etc. Basically all the features you'd expect from a smartphone. You can also disable 3G data completely from the settings, and use only WiFi

However this isn't free : it runs Android 2.2, and don't expect an update any time soon. The processor is also quite slow (600 MHz). It's fast enough to run Angry Birds (which make my GF very happy :P), but don't expect a lot of performance from it. There is also very limited internal storage (200MB), so basically everything needs to go on the microSD. It comes with a 2 GB card, and I think you can go up to 32 GB (the phone supports SDHC).

All in all, it's a great phone for a first smartphone. The only thing I'm afraid of is that the GF will quickly learn to appreciate the smartphone, and soon ask for something more powerful.

You should also shop for deals on the phone. Don't buy it at 50$. This weekend it was 0$ at Future Shop and came with a 50$ gift card (this particular deal ends on December 24, you can check this week's flyer on page 10).

Thanks, Renegade. I'm thinking this is exactly what my wife would like. I got an offer to renew my (her) contract for a new phone. I believe I can get it for free. I plan to set it up so she can check her email and she just recently got on FB.

I am also considering getting more storage (32GB) to replace her iPod which lasts only 2 hours each charge now. How is the sound quality on it?
