more good news for those with SakTel and work at Potash: :)
http://www.sasktel.com/about-us/news/current-news-releases/sasktel-partners-with-potashcorp.html
SaskTel and PotashCorp today announced the construction of a new digital cellular tower at Rocanville Potash Mine as a result of a shared model agreement between the two companies. The tower, which will be complete during the third quarter of 2009, will serve both the mine site and the surrounding area. Under the shared model program, a company or a community contributes funding toward a digital cellular site to make up for any anticipated shortfall between SaskTel’s costs and the revenues the site is expected to generate.
“We appreciate the opportunity to partner with PotashCorp in delivering improved digital cellular service to the Rocanville Mine and surrounding area,” said Robert Watson, SaskTel President and CEO. “This project wouldn’t have been possible without PotashCorp’s contribution.”
“Good communication infrastructure and exceptional cellular service are important to our expansion plans, and SaskTel has been very cooperative in providing the services we needed for our Rocanville project," said Steve Fortney, General Manager of PotashCorp's Rocanville facility. "While SaskTel's evaluation suggested it could justify financing the majority of the project, PotashCorp was willing to participate based on the benefits to the company and the surrounding communities. We look forward to superior coverage in the area.”
Digital cellular service provides advanced functionality that allows customers to use the newest and most innovative services such as sending and receiving text, picture and video messages, communicating via push-to-talk service, browsing the internet, downloading video clips, watching streaming video, performing banking transactions and accessing real-time information such as news, weather and stock quotes all from their cell phone.

Good news keeps on coming for SaskTel customers:
"Faster wireless data access for Rosthern"
SaskTel cellular network customers in the Rosthern area now have access to faster data speeds thanks to the new EV-DO Rev A enhancement. EV-DO technology enables a host of wireless data services, including web browsing, content downloads and video streaming. This expansion is part of an ongoing $11.3 million project to expand or improve EV-DO service in 64 locations across the province.
“SaskTel’s commitment to offering its customers world-class wireless services is evident from this latest improvement,” Minister of Crown Corporations Ken Cheveldayoff said. “This project to deliver improved wireless data service to residents and businesses across the province will help bring SaskTel’s total investment in digital cellular service to over $170 million.”
“With the much higher speeds made possible by EV-DO Rev A technology, and an EV-DO capable device, SaskTel cellular customers will be able to use wireless data services such as web browsing, content downloads, streaming video, streaming radio, email and instant messaging at speeds close to residential internet high speed connections,” SaskTel President and CEO Robert Watson said. “We will continue to invest in our network to provide our customers with the latest wireless technologies over the largest digital cellular network in the province.”
EV-DO Rev A is a third generation network technology available to Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) cellular carriers that will support peak average upload speeds ranging between 350 kbps and 550 kbps, and peak average download speeds ranging between 2000 kbps and 2300 kbps. In order to use EV-DO Rev A, the customer must be using a EV-DO Rev A capable device in the EV-DO Rev A locations. If customers roam outside of the EV-DO coverage area, the device will switch to 1X coverage automatically. SaskTel’s entire digital network has been enabled with 1X functionality since 2003.

Even more SaskTel news:
Bringing High Speed Internet to 100% of Saskatchewan population and Cellular to 98%
SaskTel to invest $220 million in its Saskatchewan network in 2009, which includes $42.4 million from the Government of Saskatchewan for year one of a three year Rural Infrastructure Program. Residential and business customers in communities across the province can expect improved and expanded SaskTel services as a result of this latest major capital investment.
“With this major network investment, SaskTel is continuing its commitment to Saskatchewan,” Minister of Crown Corporations Ken Cheveldayoff said. “As SaskTel moves into its second century, residential and business customers can look forward to improved and expanded service in 2009 and beyond.”
“Since 1987, SaskTel has invested more than $3.2 billion in our Saskatchewan network,” SaskTel President and CEO Robert Watson said. “In 2009, we will continue our efforts to deliver expanded coverage, increased bandwidth and even better service to our Saskatchewan customers.”
