If you lived in B.C. had to choose...

> Signing up for a 3-year contract with Bell and get the i9100 for $0, or
> Signing up for a 3-year contract with Telus and get the T989 (X) for $50...

... which one would you pick and why?

Bell and Telus seem to be opposites, in some regard. Bell's got the better selection of latest devices, while Telus has better customer service (apparently).

I'd prefer the i9100 though because of the Exynos processor, physical home button, smaller form factor, and wider developer support. The reason I'd get the S2X would be for the DC-HSPA network, and it seems that Telus has the "6GB for $30" data add-on, while Bell does not.

So... get a better phone? Or a better carrier?

I could get an unlocked i9100 from Newegg for $550, but if I were to decide to upgrade my device in, say, 18 months from now, I calculated it would be cheaper for me to own a phone if I simply paid off the balance of the current plan; after 18 months, I could own an S2X for $325.

Thoughts/comments?

I would call both carriers and see which one will give you a better plan, than make a final decision on the phone. Having said that I would go for the original gs2 with exynos cpu and mali400 gpu, that qualcom cpu and adreno 220 found in the G2X is not as good, even though its clocked at a faster 1.5ghz than the exynos 1.2ghz.

Also much more dev support for the original gs2 when compared to g2x since it just came out. As you pointed out the g2x does dualcell hspa which will probably have faster data speed , but that might drain battery quicker also , regular hspa is pretty fast unless you want to tether to your pc and stream hd videos online. Other than that both phones are very similar specwise internally, so its pretty much what fits better in your hand, since the g2x has a .2" bigger screen.

Also bell does offer 6gb/$30 all the big three offer this, so when you call you can try talking to the first agent , but i would just deal with retentions directly, and mention you want to sign a 3 year plan and you want 6gb data since you gonna be on contract , and whats the point of paying $30/1gb when you can pay the same for 6gb.

Thanks. I got what I wanted in a roundabout way. I signed onto Telus and got the SIIX, but I'm trading it with someone who has an unlocked version of the i9100. So the only thing I'm sacrificing is the warranty, which will be voided anyway once I flash CM7 on the device!

Pretty cool! That will really streamline the order process and save the businesses some money. Not sure how it will handle special requests like "no onions please".
