I'm in the same situation as you. I'm with Rogers but want a new Android phone. From what I have read, I decided I wanted the Hero for $500 because I really like the Sense UI from HTC. The phone looked good but the technical specs were not that great but I was willing to live with it.

Now the Milestone is available for $50 more and I'm questioning my choice. I like the larger and better screen of the Milestone as well as the faster processor. I don't care for the keyboard as I think it only adds thickness to the phone since I'll probably use the on-screen keyboard as it's supposed to be better. I'm not too excited for the UI on the stock Android OS 2.0. So, I'm wondering if I'll regret getting a faster phone that's simply not as fun to use as the Hero with Sense.

It's hard... I might just wait for the Nexus One to come to Canada and then root it and install Sense on it

Let's hear it from other fellow Android fans in the forum :)

^ Hero is good but I've heard that it gets really sluggish with the SenseUI

I have a HTC Hero, and I'm still very happy I bought it. I'll do a list of why I would get a Milestone instead, and why not.

1) Milestone runs Android 2.0, and has access to a lot of more apps in the Market
2) Milestone is FAST
3) HTC Hero is too slow (I know from experience)
4) Android 1.5 really just annoys me
5) Milestone's screen is much bigger, and it makes a big difference
6) Milestone can do 3D gaming (which still isn't that popular on Android, but is really good when you see it)

1) HTC Hero has Sense (which can be turned off, but still keeps programs like People, Peep, etc. no matter what) which is GREAT
2) The Keyboard on the Milestone is so bad that it makes me want to break off half the device (I don't have a Milestone, but my friend bought it, and we traded phones for a day)
3) I prefer the HTC Hero design over the copper (gold ish) accents on the Milestone

Finally, I really like both of these phones, and if only one of them was on TELUS, I would happily take it. I bought the HTC Hero, because I was a HUGE fan of Sense, and I just wanted a new phone badly (I got it for Christmas). People say that they don't like the software keyboard on both phones, plus the hardware keyboard on the Milestone sucks, but I really like Swype (free, http://beta.swype.com/ (actually, the beta just closed, but it might come back)) which is much faster that any type of smartphone keyboard.

If I were you, and could wait, I would get the Sony Ericsson X10 when it comes out on Rogers. What I WOULDN'T do is get the Motorola Backflip (Or the Quench or DEXT), because I hate MotoBLUR, and the phones aren't fast enough.

plus the milestone has a QWERTY keyboard also. Just in case you don't like the touchscreen

Price point the Hero, overall better device is the Milestone - better display too

I'd say the Milestone. It is a nice device, especially compared to the Moto Backflip TELUS is launching.

It is sad that all these people are unlocking phones and going back to Rogers.

Looks like Rogers isn't at the forefront of the technology wave anymore.

TELUS has some pretty cool phones coming out. You may want to wait and see?
