Hi all,

I just switched from a BB torch 9800 to a Galaxy nexus, and I am looking for an app that is taking care of powering the wifi on/off depending on your position. on blackberry there is an app called wifi manager that does just that (based on which cell tower you a reaching I believe), but I have yet to find something like that on android, do anybody know one that would do that? free or paid!

I use an app called Network Switcher (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.smartandroiddesigns.networkswitcher ), it allows you to create a variety of rules to turn on/off wifi and 3g. I use it to turn wifi on/off when it scans and detects either my home or work network. I think you can only create two rules in the free version, but I think the the pro version was the best value of any app I've bought (<$2).

Alternatively you could try Locale (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.twofortyfouram.locale). It will switch wifi on/off and many other things. It is activated by your location via GPS.

I have tried both, and for now, I have chosen Locale, I like the interface better and it does exactly what I want! Thanks again!

Great! Always looking for something to make the Android experience that much more perfect. I'm going to talk about this with my customers who are worried about over-using data.

Yeah, that's exactly why I first tried it out. Great for data management. It really excels as a battery saver too. I have it set up to only turn on 3G for 1 minute of every 20 minutes unless my phone is plugged in or the screen is active, so my phone has enough time to check for email before the radio is turned off again. And it turns completely off overnight. For me it is a must have app.
