There's many new features that have been added to the iPhone 3GS that are worth noting. Externally they are identical, meaning you can use the same hardware, and cases with them, but internally is a different story.
The 3gs adds
* Improved camera - 3mp with autofocus (still no flash)
* Video recording
* New graphics chip (PowerVR SGX)
* 600mhz processor (vs 412mhz)
* Double the ram (256mb)
OS 3.0 adds:
* Cut, copy, paste
* MMS
* Tethering
* landscape keyboard
* Voice memos
* Improved calendar
* Stereo Bluetooth
* Auto Wi-fi login
* Safari improvements
* Shake to shuffle
* Comp***
* Push notifications

Hello.
I just heard about that The 3g has not had the overheating problems that the 3gs has had. Only the 3gs has peer to peer file sharing via bluetooth.

There's a reason why Apple called this the iPhone 3GS for Speed and not the 3GC for "comp***" or 3GV for "video recording." Speed is the central upgrade here, and probably is the single biggest reason you would upgrade to a 3GS from a 3G.

3Gs does seem to sport a lot of speed improvements over the 3G.The 3Gs comes equipped with a 600Mhz ARM processor which is better than the 412Mhz processor of the 3G.The iPhone 3GS’s screen coating is intended to keep fingerprints to a minimum. 3gs is the newest current iphone, it is the fastest iphone,loads pages faster, games better, etc.
I had both. Speed & playing games is faster for 3GS.

iPhone 3GS has very advance technology and also very fast. It made using latests processor. I am sure many people will like these iPhone.

Not to mention Voice Control, which isn't that special though... It's fast, so if you download iOS4, it won't crash. It runs smoothly. 3G with iOS 4 is horrible unless you remove 'Spotlight' than it's just adequate...

When it comes down to hardware, apple is very nity grity. I know friends with both and i see a substantial difference. Dont get the 3g anymore because the minimum RAM iOS4 requires is 256MB to function well. CPU and Graphics card is also important.
BTW for ppl who have 3G and want to make it faster, uncheck all the apps in spotlight search
i did this for my friend and seems to be better

3G has a 600MHz ARM processor, which is better than the 412Mhz processor for 3G. 3G does not seem to sport a lot of speed improvements of 3G. IPhone 3G is a technology very early and very fast.
