Bonjour mes amis!
Just thought I'd drop an update from the Rogers side (usually drop updates from the Fido side):
The HTC Magic has been temporarily pulled due to the same 911 issue that the Dream has been suffering from. All current Magic users just got a text telling them to turn off GPS in order to make 911 calls and the phone has been yanked off Rogers.com
Mobile revolution? Yea right... just don't get into an emergency or else your phone will crash.

that guy from Dawsons Creek who led the revolution just took his money and ran. Too bad this is happening but a new Android is on the way, so is a new revolution

it's been pulled for safety reasons. Anytime a call cannot be made from a device it's basically considered a risk and by law has to be removed from any sort of sale. :(

fix is in
“A mandatory software update is now available for Rogers HTC Dream and Magic customers to ensure 911 calls can be completed on these devices. These customers need to go immediately to http://www.rogers.com/dreamsoftwareupdate or http://www.rogers.com/magicsoftwareupdate on a PC to download the update. Users of Windows 7 or Macintosh will need to call 1-888-Rogers1 for update instructions. Customers will need to backup any personal items before the update process.
Customers who have not downloaded this software update could have problems accessing 911. As a result, we are taking the precautionary measure of temporarily disabling internet access for Dream and Magic users on Sunday January 24 at 6:00AM (EST). Voice and text messaging will not be impacted. By disabling internet access, we can ensure that 911 calls are completed for all our Dream and Magic customers. Once a customer completes the software update, his/her internet access will be re-enabled within 24 hours.
Temporarily disabling internet access is the only decision we could make to ensure all customers can make 911 calls. We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience. Dream and Magic customers on data plans will automatically be credited for one month of data fees (excluding roaming). This credit will show up on invoices within 60 days. We take this matter very seriously and continue to investigate the way this issue was addressed to determine how we can improve our internal and external processes.”

@Bro
I am one of those customers.
I don't have Windows so I couldn't go down the HTC Sync route.
There was an alternative option supplied by Rogers Tech Support to load two zip files onto your MicroSD.
See, I did this and the second zip file totally f@@ked the phone up! I now have a phone that doesn't want to reboot and a phone without I ***ume a OS! (as the second zip contained the Sense UI ROM update).
So, well done to the powers that be at Rogers for making an arse out of the update. Why couldn't the update be done through the 'air'...
And to make maters worse Rogers doesn't even have a Tech department to send phones for repair... This is a joke! You sell phones with custom ROMs and you can't fix them.
So pissed...

@ Home
No they will make me squirm for a week or two...
I think I've spent 3 days loading and reloading as per their advice and nothing.
Yeah, I said just send me a new phone with the updated ROM and I will send back the old one.
Their reply was 'I have be adviced as their is a fix for this that we cannot do that'...
It's the typical well, my screen shows me this BS... I'm a Linux user and know how to follow their instructions! They can't get p***ed that my phone says...'no'
If it gets any worse I'm gonna make it a media ****storm for them - well, to the tech section of the globe and mail anyway! lol
Guess it's my bad for having faith in their update in the first place!
anyone still having issues
