I am in a contract (i know i know) for another 10 months with Bell. Does anyone know if I am I able to buy a wind 9700 for 450.00, unlock it, and use it on the bell network for the remainder of my contract?
I want to avoid dropping $200+ on an early cancellation fee.

nope :( It works on an AWS network (like T-Mobile in the US). WIND phones won't work with TELUS/Bell and only on EDGE (2G speeds) with Rogers.
Not worth the time or money.

probably in 10 months Wind will have a bigger network built and even have lower prices on their phones/plans

I've been a Bell customer for 10+ years, I used to like them a lot but recently I have just gone through a nightmare dealing with their customer service people...
All the usual complaints. Just trying to work through the costs of everything right now, but I think my best bet might be to buy a cheaper BB (8530 thoughts?) outright and use it for the remainder of my Bell contract.
Maybe by that time WIND will have gotten their feet set and have a more competitive network built.
Is there a phone that I can by now with Bell that I can unlock and use with WIND when my contract is up? maybe that is just wishful thinking?

you could purchase a Bell HSPA phone, but again, it would only work on EDGE with WIND.
WIND's future coverage isn't going to be that much better then it is now in ON or AB. Most of the area's will be roaming on Rogers EDGE anyway. It will be a few years down the road until they can even consider building a 3G+ network with the same coverage area as TELUS/Bell.

It'll be interesting to see how customers react to their first round of WIND bills...
especially because there will definitely be a few people who didn't fully comprehend the coverage and "home" explanation.
I am considering moving out to BC in the next year or so, which provider has the best coverage out there IYO?

Depends where you are...in the cities, TELUS/Bell have the largest 3G+ footprint, in rural areas, Rogers has GSM and EDGE coverage that TELUS/Bell don't.

If your adamant about using WIND, you would have to wait until they have a home zone in your area, and then purchase one of their 9700 for 450 and use it on their network. Or you can pay their outrageous rates for being outside the 'home zone' until they are in your area.
