For those considering any Android phone, please check which software version it comes with (Galaxy=1.5?) and be sure you get an official commitment in writing that your carrier will be upgrading your phone to the limits of it's hardware. Many apps now take advantage of Android 1.6 and there are many that will run only on 2.0.

Don't be left behind like the Rogers Dream/Magic users as Google freely updates Android regularly but Canadian carriers still don't understand that these are computers with phones and should be updated as new features are added.

Put pressure on them also to give you access to PAID apps in the Android store.

It's kind of sad that all the Android phones in Canada are running 1.5. We are so far behind already and 3 new Android phones were just released in the last 2 months during which 1.6 was already readily available. As good as Android is, there really is no sense in buying an Android phone in Canada at the moment until we get some commitments from the manufacturers and carriers that they will support these devices with software updates.

I think the only thing to do is to buy the phones outright unlocked and then use them with whatever network you get the best deal from. Then I believe the updating is taken care of by Google. Yes it will cost 600 dollars for the phone but we're paying for it over time anyway with Bell or Rogers or Telus.

The galaxy is the nicest Android yet though, kicks the butt off the Magic, Eve and Dream. Nowhere close to the Milestone

nothing confirmed. Canada looks to be shut out until Telus gets the Milestone with 2.0

maybe they might do an upgrade soon. What does it actually take for this to be pushed through

Any updates on the Android update status? Who would we have to get in touch with to ask? It looks like my work is renewing with Bell, so I'm debating on this phone if they are going to do updates to the OS, but if they aren't then this thing is a waste of money.

Hi there, I'm not a galaxy owner nor a bell customer, I just wanted to let you know that a bunch of us Rogers customers engaged in a public shame campaign against Rogers and HTC. Our efforts managed to convince HTC to agree to upgrade the magic from 1.5 to 2.1, They said that hardware limitations excluded the dream from any upgrade. Rogers is steeping up to the plate for those of us that purchased the dream from them. They are offering us for a limited time to replace our dreams with the magic.

I contacted Bell yesterday and told them I was interested in the Galaxy, but that I'd only commit if an update was coming to the phone. Bell said that an update is making it's way to the Galaxy but couldn't tell me when or whether the update is to 1.6 or 2.0. My guess is spring/summer to 1.6. I'm surprised at how unsure and vague they were with the answer. I suppose I can't be TOO surprised as it seems one can get a different answer everytime with Bell & Rogers =/
