Anyone have any success with Skype or other VoIP software compatible with a RIM Playbook?
I really want to travel internationally with it (great size) but need to at least make WIFI voice calls to people back in Canada and the UK with the Playbook, something like Skype or Google Voice would be great.
I have tried the imo.im website, but the quality and reliability are awful.
Not sure if any of the unofficial android hacks are recommended by people for the average user? ALL RECOMMENDATIONS WELCOME! Can’t wait for the February upgrade before I have to travel.
THANKS.

Kik or whatsapp should at least allow you to chat.

Thanks, but in addition to Instant Messaging chat, I really want to use the WiFi in Hotels and offices abroad to make long-distance calls. I have a dumb GSM phone for local calls but LD calls back to Canada and Europe and really expensive in some of these locations. I can travel with the iPAD, but my new Playbook looks like it will be easier to travel with for the light email and communication requirements of these trips.
I'm sure someone has already used a Playbook for this purpose, I just don't see an easy App Store solution before I look into an Android hack. I don't mind a VoIP (Internet Telephony) solution that costs a reasonable cents/minute, but just can't find a thing!
Thanks.

The video chat option works with other playbooks.
I wish they could make Skype integrate somehow into their video chat app so you could pretty much call anyone you want.

Yeah that would add a lot of real world productivity, along with BBM integration, to this business-oriented tablet, that RIM calls a productivity tablet.
Until I get some other suggestions, I did find Comwave's ePhone in the App World, going to try using this for its free trial before my two trips in January. I'll report back to other Playbook users. I'm a little hesitant to give Comwave much business given some of its practices and telemarketing tactics, but maybe they have a "good enough" product until Skype or Android become available.
