I stopped by a Blockbuster location, asked home area questions and roaming. That just seems too early for me to join now. Don't want to get dinged just outside their calling zone.
plus the only thing that appeals to me is the 9700. I'm going to see what's up in late January when it's build out more

That is right....This is how it will be for all their phones. Contracts do save you money in the short term....
Their 'Home Zone' idea is a bit ridiculous....we will have to wait and see.

I think I am the only person who actually likes home zone/away zone as the terminology. They are new and growing so its expected they won't have coverage everywhere. Unless you live in the GTA or Calgary and don't plan on leaving for 4 months or so it would be awesome.
$450 on the spot is better then say $399 on Bell or Rogers who charge you for a 2 year contract.
Nobody is forcing you to sign up with Wind if you want to spend more long term on a 3 year contract for a $199 blackberry by all means sign up with one of the incumbents :)

If you look at their future 'home zones' they are still only in major cities. If you live in Airdrie and work in Calgary, then you will pay LD and additional airtime when your at home...Talk about a scam.
Unless of course you want to add the $20 unlimited LD feature....

yup, for the BB 9700. Plus let;s say you want to upgrade in a year to a new phone you gotta ditch that one and buy a completely new device for another 450. kinda weird

It's a bit of a mind job when you think about it. It's for all phones that you have to pay the full price then go on a mothly charge. No contract though

For the Nexus One? I believe it will be around the same price as the Blackberry 9700.
The Nexus One is $525 off contract in the US i believe. The Blackberry 9700 is $500.
Not too much of a price difference.

If you are thinking about either of those phones, I would suggest just buying them outright.
The Nexus One has a Google imposed TLC of sorts in the first 120 days and the N900 will come down in price once the N920 comes out.

I saw vids of the N900 and it looks wicked, but the downside it's a Nokia. I rather get something like a Berry or test my luck with the Nexus. Not a fan of Nokia, everything feels cheap to me

They [Mobilicity] said in a video that they're going to have a whole line of smartphones. Sounds like Wind's big brother. It's hard for these small companies to get started if they don't have good coverage and selection.

windformer
03-03-2010, 06:41 AM
I don't think that Mobilocity will be getting the Nexxus one, and if they do? So what? They come unlocked right from Google themselves, in this day and age making phone selection your primary reason for going with a provider is silly.
I do think that they're making a mistake going with these cheap Chinese phones, look for the Gowell G320 ($90) next, should be hitting stores this week or next. Bar phone, 2 MP camera, bluetooth and that's about it.
Super cheap and ultra easy are what WIND needs in their lineup.
PS - good luck finding anything about the G320 out there, I've been looking for days

I just looked yesterday and google still sells it for $530 USD on their website (plus $27 shipping and $80 tax) you're looking at $650-700 for the phone.
On ebay they are the same, or more.
