With my experience not much. I use data for browsing, so 500mb would do nothing for me. Especially with the fact that i watch youtube quite a bit. So exactly what can you do with 500mb of data?

one question what device do you have, because another member was telling us in a tread that blackberry devices get their data compressed so 500mb does alot more than on a iphone.

from the Rogers Data Calculator is says you can view 4,000 web pages, get 400 e-mails and watch 60 minutes of streaming videos ... this accurate?

Yes that's accurate for the IPhone, it is the largest 'user' of data other than a data stick itself or 'tethered'

really that is pretty good. i highly doubt i would view 4000 web pages, so is it, 4000 pages or 400 emails, or 60 mins of streaming video. or is all that combined 500mb

i still think ill go with bell and get unlimited browsing and email on blackberry for 30 a month. especially because i am entitled to an upgrade. i think ill wait a bit until a new blackberry device comes out. or i can go with the storm, maybe or another smartphone, samsung ace anyone. i might wait a few months till the 8900 or 9030 is supposed to come out "only a rumor as of now" and just see. I might wait for the GSM thing but that could be a year

I just got an iPhone and not that worried about the 500 mb of data thing. Sure were getting hosed in comparison to what American companies give their customers and the amount should be at least doubled. But I live in Fredericton. I can access my WiFi in my whole apartment building, workplaces usually have it, and downtown is filled with free access. I actually don't use Rogers data network unless I'm in the car or bus on the way to these places.

On my Blackberry Curve 8310 the most I used was 32 mb in a month, ha ha. So I have room to grow?

I used the Curve for mostly e-mail and pins, but every other day I would go on to google to look something up like a business phone number. Occasionally read the National Post or NYTimes mobile websites. The browser on the Curve 8310 was mediocre at best, so I didn't use the net much.

I use viigo, emails, pin, opera mini, bb browser, bolt, youtube few things that i use daily. last month out of my 500mb i used about 254mb only half of what was given. But once slacker radio allows canadian users its going to be alot more i think.

500MB is a fair amount for most people. Just wait until there are a lot more applications and streaming media on your phone gets better. Then 500MB will seem like floppy disks.

wait till bell and Telus GSM is up. then all data rates will have to go down to be competitive. waitin for the niagara to come to bell, then i get the $30 unlimited data and email. then im set

I guess it depends on what exactly you will be doing with your phone. If its mostly push email, msn/yahoo/aol messenger, facebook, youtube then i guess you're fine. But people like me who will watch live streamed data like baskeball games, baseball games, football games on the go or whereever then 500mb is unaccetable. Currently i'm with sympatico at hoem wth a grandpa plan with no cap on teh net. When the guy tried to upgrade my speed and i told him i watch streamed data he's liek ya stick with your plan. I don't even have cable when i can watch tv online commericail free for free at anytime any day any season. This is what i will be doing with my phone on teh commute home. It may sound picky as most will say just download it to your hard drive and transfer it to my phone but once i watch it once i'm not wtaching it again so might as well stream it. With only 3 major cariers in canada and all this air space and wave sapce avaiable, they can at least make plans similar to hoem computer plans. In todays tech, it should be no more than $1 a gig

Please tell me how you come to that conclusion. If you can explain to me how you can sell $1/GB of 3G data to millions of customers, turn a decent a profit, and have enough money to continuously improve the network, then I will will personally build this network for you. If you can't, then don't pretend we live in 3000AD.

Yes, I listen to streaming radio, and have managed to rack up 1530 megabytes on a 500 mega bytes plan. Trust me if your not in a wifi area, dont listen to streaming radio long on this plan, lol. 50 bucks a megabyte, facepalm.

I use

Beirut Nights App, Tune IN Radio on my Captivate and Pioneer Car Bluetooth. The Setup is sweet via Tasker App ( Start Bluetooth when Car Docked, Turn APN 3G, Turn Music App ) I used up 50 Mb for 35 min drive. I need at least 3 gigs to feel comfortable

I was one of those who surrendered the $30/6GB Plan last march, my heart burns

I have wifi at work and home so I have no issues with 500mbs.
I did have one month where I used 430mb, however with 4 days left in this billing cycle I have used 36mb. If you don't have wifi access then 500mb would probably not be enough unless you are an extremely casual user of browsing/video playing/music streaming.

Right now I have a 500MB but using a Blackberry device. Therefore, my consumption per month is around 20 to 30 MB. I usually on a WIFI environment.

My question is..how is this going to affect if I move to an Android OS phone? How will that 30MB translate it to? I probably will do a little bit of music and video streaming.
