Hi,

Does anyone know if Samsung will release ICS for Galaxy S?
Or will it be like Gingerbread and the release will take bloody long to the point where you'll forget ?

At a minimum it will be a long time, if at all. Samsung have confirmed the Galaxy S II will get ICS but no other commitment that I've hear of yet. I'd brace yourself for a long wait.

However, the android modding community have already done some initial ports of ICS to the older Samsung phones. That's always an option if Samsung chooses not to update.

Oops, sorry, false alarm. That was for Nexus S. Not Galaxy S.

The Nexus S will get ICS.

Google is already testing ICS on the Nexus S internally.

The Nexus S and Galaxy S are different phones.

I imagine that the Galaxy S will not get an official ICS port, but there is a community modder project to do so:

No official Galaxy S ROM from Samsung:

"Samsung just pulled the Galaxy S line of phones from their ICS roadmap this morning due to unresolvable "touchwiz performance issues"

Why they cannot go with a stock UI I don't know.

The modder community has ICS running on the I9000 (at least well enough for a 4 minute video)

So the issue is not whether or not the hardware is capable, it's whether or not Samsung thinks its worth the effort.

I'm still unsure whether xxgg was asking about Galaxy S or Nexus S, but I read this morning that Samsung confirmed that the Galaxy S will unfortunately NOT be getting ICS.
