I'm currently with Telus and have been off contract for the past 10 months. I'm planning to port my number over to virgin though. Does anyone know if Telus will charge me for porting my number to virgin or anyone els for that matter? Even if I'm not on a contract. I really need to know this. Thanks in advance :)

You'll be charged for one remaining month of your contact and any balance due up the point of porting out. If you want to minimize this charge, strip your plan to the lowest possible price you can get it to.

OR, you could call TELUS and let them know. See what they can do for you...Freebies among other things.

You are never charged for porting your number. That was part of the CRTC ruling when they implemented Number Portability. You will only have to pay your remaining bill cycle with Telus. No cancellation fees, no porting fees, and right now Virgin also has no activations fees, so it will be a free trip to Virgin for you :-)

The simple answer: No you will not be charged a fee as long as you are not currently under contract. You will have to pay 1 more month of service, unless you cancel with a few days left on your billing cycle.
If you were still under contract, then you would have to pay the TLC (Termination Liability Charge) from TELUS.

I like how these response comes months after the initial question is asked  Seriously though, we should have a stickied thread for FAQ's and such.

I told that hobbyist guy to check dates, cause he posted in 4 or 5 threads from last year. He's a newbie, we'll forgive him this time :-)
