View Full Version : Wind is censoring their own forum

Wind Community Moderators removed my reply to some posts in one of the topics because it Included the words "clearly you don't have a clue" as part of my reply to a belligerent, inaccurate poster before going on to explain the details of my points. This does not seem to me to be unduly insulting.

If it is so impermissibly insulting, why remove the whole reply instead of just that part? It would seem easy enough since the Moderators already changed the title of the topic.

The removal of my full reply is just an example of Wind's censorship. So much then for their open and transparent policy!

I'm surprised we don't see more of that, actually.
Complaints about Wind's Customer Service, just to pick one example, are getting more and more frequent and widespread. I've had my own battle with CS actually (refusing to port out a number) but, to be fair, to my knowledge they didn't censor my posts, although I haven't actually gone in and made sure every one is still there.

This surely must be embarrassing for the company. I'm sure it's hurting business. I expect we'll see more censorship there unless they do something about the actual issues to head off the complaints.

So, I guess the moral of the story is; if you have something really critical of Wind you better post it here or on HoFo, where Wind can't get at it.

I hate when companies do this... It really doesn't help future buyers to hear no negatives. I guess their marketing committee would be insane to not do this though... Too bad they have to rely on keeping the problems out of the eyes of the public instead of focusing on making the problems non-existent.

Your remark doesn't seem very bad... maybe they think it would reflect a bad image onto wind.

Everyone makes the rules of their own castle. No company puts forums on line as a medium for people to air grievances which could hurt sales. That's not censorship any more than a person deleting a facebook post they don't appreciate being on their own profile. That's why it is good to have neutral sites like this. Wind can't delete posts here.

Only second rate companies, that offer an inferior product, whose only objective is to make money, moderate their online forums. Good companies (with good products and services) do not need to, as their supporters will not allow the few detractors to take over the forums and rule.

What happens (often) is that someone will create a forum account, and after reading the good news, they will buy in to what is being offered. Afterward, after a less than satisfying experience, they will post about it, only to find (to their horror) that their post has been deleted.

The above has happened to me in the past (only once) I am very critical these days and will only purchase App's and services, after doing much online research. The one time I got bitten (years ago now) still bugs me though.

If you ever visit a site (for the first time) and find that their online forums contain few critical posts, it's a red flag (and buyer beware) period.

I will agree with you about the value of web sites like MobileSyrup, that offer an open platform, in order to discuss other companies and services - they are (IMO) the best of the best :)

WIND has always done this and will continue to do this to keep their community a safe place for everyone.

I assume some complaints were removed due to duplicate complaints.

Wow....Wind suddenly seems unappealing anymore. :( Not only this, but all those other posts... what happened to all those "I love Wind because" ads? As a first time phone buyer, I'm probably going to steer away now...

Wind has always censored its forums. Most major companies censor their forums and public relations. This is typical. There are actually a lot of complaints on Wind forums that don't get censored out.

Its funny how people believe that democratic principles apply to business behavior. There really are very limited constitutional rights as it applies to consumer/business relationships. It is caveat emptor.

It is well known that Apple was and is censoring their forums. They removed many threads about complaints with cracking and other hardware defects. No surprise that wind and everyone else will do it too.

Hello,

We just want to keep the conversation fair, g-rated and accurate.

As we state in our community guidelines, "We welcome ideas and suggestions about how WIND can make wireless services better for Canadians. Discussions that are outside that scope may be deleted at any time."

In most cases, posts are only removed when they contain profanity, overtly incorrect information, negative or rude comments about other community users or unauthorized advertising or soliciting.

Duplicate posts will also be removed (please, no spamming).

And unfortunately, if an initial post is removed, this will remove comments that are attached to that post.

The complete list of community guidelines can be viewed here:
http://www.windmobile.ca/en/pages/guidelines.aspx

I hope that helps clear that up.

Cheers,
-Mathew

I'm curious what classifies a duplicate post. Do you mean the same post by the same user or IP address, or the same problem from different people?
For example, if 100 different people had the same issue and all posted about it, would the posts be deleted until only one was left? I'm guessing they only get deleted if the same person decides to create multiple posts. I hope that is the case, no sense blinding the public to issues more numerous than what appears.

Posts from people with the same issue can be merged into the a single thread.

This way if an answer is provided, resolution is found or if the community itself provides a response, everyone will see it.

Duplicate posts are usually "copy and pastes" of the same post over and over again.
