I saw a video where someone used a ps3 controller on the s2. Now if I were get the app they used could it work on the htc amaze? I don't understand how even though androids have the same os they have different roms, and some updates work on some phones and others don't. Wouldn't the android update for 1 phone work for another because it's just the os? Windows works on both AMD and Intel so why are different android os required for phones with the same specs?
Thanks.

To give an admittedly weak answer - it may work on the Amaze or it may not. Its true the the PS3 controller has been made to work Android, but that is no guarantee it will work on every phone. When I heard about this several months ago I specifically remember reading that there were specific compatibility problems with newer HTC and Samsung devices. If you're going to base your buying decision on this feature then research more to be sure - go to XDA or the dev's website, contact him/her, read the comments in the market, etc.
Also be cautious because I'm pretty sure that the sixaxis control requires you to root your device. Perhaps you're a power user and that is easy stuff to you, but if not then you run the risk of bricking your phone, voiding your warranty, and opening up security holes.

I'm coming from an iPhone and jailbroke that so I liked being able to do cool stuff that I couldn't do with the default settings. Although using the ps3 controller isn't a major selling point I would like to be able to do it because playing snes on my phone with a controller would be awesome. And yeah I'll definitely check that out.
Thanks.

Drstrangelove the app you are talking bout is called six axis controller, I have used it on friends gs2 and its really cool , not sure if its still on market , but there are lot of different places to find that app, google is your friend .
Also the reason why one update for android can't work on all phones is cause manufactures add stuff to original google updates aka skins sense, touchwiz, motoblur. These all make it hard for manufacturers to release the new android version, since their skins need to be updated to work with the latest android update, can't really explain in too much detail without getting too technical.
Flagg rooting your phone is the least likely way to brick your phone , unless you start deleting android system files randomly for fun once you have root . Even than you are safe as long as u installed the recovery bios like feature , which goes hand in hand when rooting, since you can reinstall another OS if this one screws up. Also you can always unroot if you worried bout warranty . Root basicly takes control that manufacturers has over your phone and puts it into your hands . Visit xda developers site and see for yourself the wonders of android customizing .

I went to Xda and I noticed that there is no Htc Amaze, or Motorola Razr. Anyone know why is that?
Thanks.

its probably because they are too new , give it few weeks. Devs need to figure out how to root it , than the magic happens. Since no manufacturer will give you the info on cracking the phones security.

Ah alright. Just the whole idea of android is confusing to me coming from only an iphone. Just so much to customize and change it's gonna take a while to get used to and understand.

DrStrangelove the thing about jailbreaking your iphone is that you basically only have root and very limited root at that, android lets you totally control your phone with enough tweaks, down to how your cpu runs , to how the software runs, thats why it seems overwhelming. All of the instructions on xda seem like gibberish at first until you do it, than they are just repeated over and over and tweaking your phone becomes piece of cake.
