Hey guys,
I really love everything about the s2x, and it's available from my current service provider (I'm not on contract), and specs seem great...
But the downgrading of the DAC (Digital-to-Audio Converter) is really a dealbreaker for me. I'm looking for a solution so that I can play my uncompressed music files with minimal sound quality loss. I have some questions:
1) I assume that the g2x has a car and home audio dock. This would bypass the internal Yamaha DAC, transmitting the signal digitally to the dock. Does anyone know if there is a hi-fi dock that can do this? Does it exist at all?
e.g. For the iPhone and iPod lines, well-known [to audiophile] companies such as NAD or McIntosh have come out with home DAC's. Such a dock would not play music, but simply convert it to an analog signal to send to a home stereo or pre-amp.
2) Is there an app/background hack available to tell the phone to send music digitally through it's USB port?
There are great number of both portable and home DAC's that take a full-size USB input. There are a number of nice portable headphone amp's that have an integrated DAC; almost all of these use a USB input (over coax/optical) and it would be quite easy to physically go from MicroUSB to USB.
*A number of quality headphones utilize a high impedance (>100ohms), and thus will not be compatible with the low-output of mobile devices without an external amplifier amplifier anyways; Using a portable amp with an integrated DAC would not be such a burden. Who knows, it might even upsample :)
3) This may seem like a noob question, but that IS a micro-usb port on the bottom, right? I mean, it's not some crazy mini-PowerDVI-D-propitiatory port? It's just a standard scaled-down USB connection?
