I have a question that I am completely oblivious about with rooting and will it or can it get rid of the Samsung UI junk and replace it with a pure google ICS OS?

Ive been reading about how the Samsung UI takes up a lot of the 1gb of ram. Which is why I am looking to get rid of it.


So is it possible or do I have to wait for an ICS release from samsung then Telus which at this point the next Nexus will have come out.

What you want to do will be possible sometime in the future, like few months after release. The phone is getting released in few days and you have to give devs time to figure out how to alter things on the phone. There are lot of things unknown about the phone at this moment like how badly Telus locked it down, thats gona indicate how quickly the phone will start getting full custom Roms, custom kernels, tweaks.

Another thing to consider is how big of a dev community will support this phone , the more devs work on it the quicker the mods come. Since you stated you want pure google ICS OS , i would just wait for nexus or buy it once it comes out. No phone will have a more pure ICS google experience than the nexus. Perfomance wise these two phones are similar but Nexus will definetly run ICS better , s2x might get better in few months as custom mods start coming, but nothing is guaranteed.

Visit xda developer forums and find s2x in the sub forums and keep an eye on the dev progress , since all the mods for android phones come from this site . The phone might be called something else if it was released on another carrier so go by the model number, that is 100% right.

The only reason I'm asking about the s2x is because when is the nexus coming to Canada? Which carrier? I don't feel like waiting until feb or more because carriers late release and my phone is starting break on me. Surprisingly enough my iPhone still works amazingly even though I dropped it so many times. The casing cracked but the screen still works... I'm just tired of iOS and prefer android.

Let's just hope it survives the patent wars.

The Nexus is supposed to be in Canada in November. Carrier is unknown at this time (I am guessing the big 3 will get it). Android will be fine through the patent wars in all honesty both iOS and Android copied each other with some features, it should be a wash in the end.

from what i was reading in a few different articles, its apple and Microsoft going after the manufacturer who are using android OS, and charging them, or apple stopping them from selling their product in certain countries... and now with this new slide lock patent apple got... it's just not looking good, and i really hope android pulls up on top and crushes microsoft's WP7 garbage, and puts android in its place.. the only 1 who seems to be playing fair is RIM.. maybe because they are just trying to catch up to where everyone else is lol

The reason Apple and Microsoft are doing this is that they have no other way of stopping Android. Microsoft has a long way before wp7 is gonna be any competitor to android, since the os looks like it was designed by fisher price for a 7 year old kid, however Apple has a cult like following thats helping them grow and come close to Android. You dont have to worry bout any Android bans or similar stuff since Google is not just sitting idly on the sidelines , they had purchased Motorola for this particular reason, to be able to fight of MS and Apple with patents of their own. RIM is on its last life line if bbx doesnt turn out to be a hit they are done, they need a super device to bring interest back to blackberry, and single core bb Colt is not that device. I doubt nexus will be on any of the big 3 carriers in Canada before xmas , their own galaxy s 2 versions will suffer greatly since nexus is very similar to them and it has a real HD screen which is a bonus for advertising the device, but then carriers might offer it sooner even if it screws up sales of their top phones, just to increase their customer base.

yea, i work for 1 of the big 3 and i am really seeing how BB is going down the drain. most people who have work phones are blackberry and i don't know how many of them hate the new 9800/9810... the outages they are experiencing.. and i get at the minimum 3 calls a day about bb bis..

i really hope bb can get back to what they were... i hate WP7 phones with a passion, you said it earlier pefectly.. its a fisher price phone for 7 yr olds. i currently have an iphone but i am far from wanting to get into that cult... at the time android wasn't what it is now, bb had sluggish.. still doesn have sluggish web and wp7 well... lets just say for iphone i got a 5 day training, android i got 2 days, windows 7, i didn't even get a 1 hour training on the phones thats how much we don't care about them.
