I have been given the option to have the Blackberry from my work transferred into my name. I was recently laid off. The contract is with Telus, it expires April 1 and I will have to change the plan from the corporate one that it is on currently.
I don't really like any of the phones out there right now, except for maybe the Pre so I don't want to sign a new agreement with Telus, Bell or Rogers to get a new device and I would prefer to keep my number that I have had for quite a while now. If an attractive device comes along I may pay out the remaining term and port my number over to a new account and get a new device.
What should I choose as my plan if I use it more for data and sms than talk time?

The BB plan is best I think

You can keep your number no matter what provider you go with. You can take your number with you if you choose to switch. Just depends on the BB that you want. Rogers has a few nice ones, and have a new Curve coming out next month. Bell and Telus have the new Tour which is a great new device.
You can keep your number no matter what provider you go with. You can take your number with you if you choose to switch.
Be careful not to cancel your plan before switching as they will try and lock your number and you won't get it back. The easiest way to ensure you get your number ported is to have which ever carrier your switching to do it. Your gonna get stuck with at least a 30 day fee for not notifying your existing carrier but you will get your old number.
The last 4 digits of my cell is the same as my house and I wouldn't give that up for nothing.

I chose to stay with Telus for now and to switch to the Smartphone Combo 45 for Blackberry. It has 250 anytime minutes, 6PM evenings, 500MB data and I selected unlimited text in and out.
When a device comes out that I like (HTC Hero) then I may switch over to the carrier that has it and pay out this contract and port my number.

Best BB plan IMO is Your Choice Smartphone Combo 45: 200 DT min, EW from 9pm, 500mb of data and your choice of: double min, fave 5 nationwide, or unlimited txt. This would cost 59.03 calculated with BC taxes

This is for new activations only, clients already on telus only get 200 daytime minutes, EW is 9pm
