Even the customer service reps are repeating this rumour. I was on the phone with a rep today and i mentioned that i thought they would be getting a lot of new phones when HSPA launched and he said "yes, even the iphone". He did stress that it was just a rumour and he had no insider info on the subject.

Rumours, rumours, rumours...but oh so fun to speculate eh!
It is looking pretty good though. Unless it is just the shear number of people "wishing" they would add the iPhone, that are keeping the rumours going. Just thought...

Its a myth at the moment only truth would be if Bell allows unlocked phones on their HSPA/GSM network. Then you can get a 3g and put it on bell. I doubt bell will get 3Gs maybe they will get the fourth version of the IPhone.

It would seem that both TELUS and Bell are spreading to same rumor to keep clients from jumping ship.
With an unlocked phone it would be possibly to have an iPhone 3G/3G S on Bell or TELUS, but for their system to allow it, you would first need a Bell/TELUS HSPA phone. There system isn't going to allow you to just add a SIM card you'll need the IMEI for a BELL HSPA handset first.
After that, you can just do a SIM swap and off you go.
Seems like a lot of trouble to me. Buying TWO phones just so you can use one....
I'd wait until next year for the new and actually good iPhone to come out. The 3g/3gs isn't worth all that trouble.

I think with Apple breaking the exclusivity agreedments in the UK and Europe, we might just see both the 3G and 3G S on TELUS/Bell very soon.
I have never been a fan of the iPhone, but it will give the two a competitive advantage.

I still don't see an iPhone surfacing on Bell or Telus until July 2010. Carrying the 3GS will mean an incredibly short product life cycle. I wouldn't be too happy buying an iPhone in January, only to find out 6 months down the road that it's become a little bit more obsolete. Unless they give incredibly generous HUP credits (getting hit by lightning is far more likely), an iPhone release late this year or early next isn't likely at all.
Though, I can imagine a conversation like this (all names are generic and coincidental) -
George: Can I haz iphone?
Steve: Uhh...rly?
George: yarly.
Steve: I have a bunch of 3G's that never sold...
George: MINE!

I don't think that is true. I'm sure if we see an iPhone on Bell or Telus it will be the 3gs. Two reasons:
A - We saw the 3gs just launch on Orange. We also saw it launch on China Unicom. So Apple has no problems launching an iPhone on a new carrier mid-product cycle.
B - When Rogers released the 3gs they offered people who had bought the 3g within the past 6 months a special upgrade. So I would ***ume that Telus/Bell would do the same. Don't quote me on that one though.
with Rogers, the new deal is that anyone who bought an iPhone 3G between July 11 and September 30 of 2008 -- and has averaged CAD $100 or more a month on their bill -- will be able to nab the 16GB or 32GB for $199 and $299, respectively, on a three-year contract. Buyers between July 11 and December 31 of last year or who didn't manage to average $100 a month will get the less heavily-discounted prices of $449 and $549, while any customer will be able to waltz in and spend $699 or $799, a princely sum indeed.

Every plan has a limit, carrier imposed or not. Doesn't matter if you're Vodafone, Bell, Telus, AT&T, Rogers, etc., if you're taking up THHAAAT much of their resources, they'll find a way to cut you off one way or another.

Very true ^. All of the providers will cut you off if your using too much data. I've had it happen to be at Rogers and TELUS. Bell has removed the data plan altogether once and gave me something that included less.
$15 for unl data is a thing of the past. If Bell did release a plan like that for their HSPA network, i would consider leaving my current provider. Do i think it will happen? Not a chance.

I'm willing to bet that Bell will have a plenty of iPhone 3G available but will have limited 3GS available only for launch day, them say what Rogers says, but insert Bell:
"The Canadian launch of the iPhone 3GS was a tremendous success. As such, Bell experienced high demand and sold out of the iPhone 3GS in some locations. While inventory is arriving on a weekly basis with backorders being fulfilled first, bell.ca orders may take up to 3-4 weeks to be delivered. As demand for the Apple iPhone 3GS remains high, we ask that you continue to check bell.ca and your local outlets where Bell products are being sold."

After what seems years of waiting it is now possible to use an iphone on their network. Speaking with a rep today I was told that to switch phones I would loose my plan and all the features that it took me a long time to negotiate for.
Is there anything that would stop me from buying an unlocked iphone and using my existing plan without having a problem? How do I get the sim card and make it work?

There is no way to switch to an HSPA device and keep your data plan. The billing system is completely different.
