I would lean towards agreeing. Ha-ha.
They are a business; A business does need to make money. Rogers just does it without caring about the customer.
If you feel so strongly about the subject, i might suggest going to TELUS. They babysit their customers, and are usually very friendly.

Rogers as a company doesn't outright lie or steal. An army of lawyers and plaintiffs assure of this. If I had to take my guess, the OP had a poor experience with customer service or some sales people. It happens in EVERY industry and at EVERY company.

True.
But as a current subscriber of both Rogers and TELUS, i must say, it does happen a lot more with Rogers; These bad experiences that is.
Have i been lied to by a Rogers rep? Answer= Yes, several times.
Do they realize they are lying to me? Answer= No, they are just ill informed, or idiots, or badly trained. You pick one of those.
This does happen with every company though. TELUS, Bell and Rogers are the only three carriers in Canada right now. Just wait until the new carriers come in and start making mistakes. People aren't going to be as forgiving to them as they have been in the past with the big 3.

every company has good days and bad days. It's become more prevelant since we have become more addicticted to our cell phone. In my opinion, Rogers has the best network by far, custer service needs work, TELUS is better at that... bell nowhere close.

I frequently visit cellular outlets, and have certainly found Rogers sales reps to be the most underhanded of the big three (in Vancouver, anyway). If you go in uninformed, they will pull a fast one over you.
Yes they have a good network, yes they have good phones (arguably the best of the incumbents), but they take full advantage of the oligopoly they are part of. Not thieves or liars as a company, but certainly charging, dare I say gouging, us for every penny they can.
it's a business and Rogers has always treated their customers as such. It's always about the dollars. With more choice coming (WIND, Dave, Public) you can always go somewhere else

No matter which provider it is, there will also be negative feedback about all providers. No providers are liers or cheaters, when signing into a contact the customer should make sure to read everything on the paper before signing dont you think? do you go sign a house morgage and just sign without reading? It is important to read, ya sure the reps are suppose to tell you all the fees etc... but sometimes reps do make mistakes they are only human, computers also make mistakes.

gets people talking though. The only thing I can say that kinda irks me about Rogers is how long I'm on hold before I speak to a CSR. 10 minutes or so :(
Elsie

Rogers haa very good customer service program. 10 minutes waiting to speak to a csr isn't all that bad. You could be waiting long like I used to with Telus. Wait for 30 minutes and get no help at all, what a waste of time. Rogers spends what ever time is needed they dont rush you off the phone, they help you right until the end.

Look , I am with Robers on an iPhone plan and yes, its expensive, but I deal with it. I know in this crappy economy its hard, but if money is an issue to you then you should not be using a high paying phone anyway. Yes, I understand what you are saying and not alot of people like their methods, but they are a business. Just like everyone else. They need to make money. If you do not like it, you can cancel at any time

I agree with you. Why do we have to pay twice more than the our neighbours down south and are so much more expensive than pretty much all of the advanced world. I hate the oligopoly Bell and Rogers have created.

I don't personally think its a matter of rogers being liars. I think what it boils down to is poorly trained reps. I have been with Rogers for a few years now. I have had a few issues with billing that have been delt with. One thing I have an issue with is contracts. Personally in my opinion I don't think "We" being customers should be subject to contracts. Sure you could go with Fido or Koodo. But at the end of the day you are left with lack of service.
Now on the other hand with the current service providers out there we don't have much options. Oh sure we could change providers each time our contracts run out but what's the point. I firmly believe that if you are respectful to the reps when you get them on the phone they will do what they can to help. This coming from somone who works in a call center and I know first hand what it is like to have a customer phone up and yell at you.
That being said I'm sure there are some reps out there that are just in it for the $$. I know that in the stores for example they work on commish so they are wanting to be slick and try to pull a fast one. I guess what I am trying to say is Rogers is a buisness. They are in it to make money. Think of it this way. If you are running your store and everyday you had someone coming in trying to get stuff for free or trying to get it for as cheap as they could would you be making money? No you wouldn't because if you just did everything the customer wanted you wouldn't be making a profit. So you have to sometimes say no and even though there are some that may leave your store never to return there will always be someone else out there ready to sign up for your services or whatever it is you are offering. Just like a bank for example.
Thanks for reading my opinion.

I couldn't agree more.
I too once worked in a call center. It really comes down to the training the reps get.
If you are nice, you get more. Just like the old say 'you catch more bees with honey than you do with vinegar'.
Having also train reps in the past, i do know that not everyone is cut out for it.
What you said about the dealers is also true. People need to remember that the store's have such high turnover. If a dealer says something that sounds a little off. Call client care to confirm. Dealers charge for activations, handset swaps, programming, the money they collect for that goes to them, not Rogers/TELUS/Bell. Keep that in mind folks.
Should the company have to eat the cost because you got scammed by the dealer? I think not!
I personally don't like the service from Rogers because i find it incredibly inconsistent.
I do think the onus is on the consumer though, to make sure that they are well informed.
Ask questions if you are not sure!!!

I agree too. Every business needs to keep customers and it does come down to customer service and how people are treated. Rogers spends a massive amount of money (exspecially these days) training their staff. With the new networks and carriers coming on board they cannot afford to loose any customers for any reason.

Depends how I look at it... all three situations apply:
As a customer, I think its a slimeball move and I would never change my plan from what it currently is to one of the new bogus plans. (I managed to get hooked up by a friendly Rogers Employee CSR rep with a plan that was crazy good, yet still eligible for discount.)
As an employee of Fido, it makes my life a little bit more complicated trying to explain to customers what the phony gov't fee is, and why they should switch to Fido even though Rogers has no more access fee. (Yes, we compete for each others customers - slightly counter-productive I think).
As a shareholder, I look forward to the additional revenue that the company will generate with this evil marketing ploy, and hope that my investment increases in value as a result of it.
Really depends what side of the field you're on. LOL

But with unhappy customers who will flock to other carriers there will be no money for shareholders, and no jobs for people

IN MY OPINION, ROGERS (THE CELLPHONE COMPANY) ARE LIERS, CHEATS, AND THIEVES!!!

Interesting blanket statement and definitely an opinion. No gray area there !!
From my perspective, it's simply a question of how Rogers & the other two major carriers treat their customers and what they offer for our scheckles.
- Customer service is hit-or miss with all three through Rogers leads the pack for inconsistancy.
- All three carriers consistently charge fees that are IMO way beyond reasonable and we as customers, in an uncompetitive maketplace have no recourse.
- Rogers certainly leads the pack when it comes to offerings (handsets, coverage etc.)
Having lived in outside of Canada and had a cell there, it amazes me that we here in Canada are paying what we do for simple cell phone service. Do you people realize that in places like the US, they're getting more for about half the price ? Do you realize that in places in Asia they're getting the same equivalent plans for about 1/10 ? Now granted, the overhead for a company in those countries is considerably lower but the profit margins here in Canada are beyond belief !!
I just finished reading that Rogers is dropping the Gov't fee but at the same time raising their basic fees and in the end, we the customers are going to end up paying more ? Umm...where is the savings for the customer ? They justify it by throwing in a few more features but if I wanted those additional features, wouldn't I be willing to pay for them in the first place ?
And where is the CRTC in all this ? Looking out for us the citizens (by way of reasonable rates, free market competition etc) or just trying to be seen to do something without actually imposing some fairness on a monopoly situation ?

FYI iPhone price and rate plans arent determine by any carrier they are determined by Apple!

I wouldn't say they are liars or cheaters, but no their service is not good. I have a smartphone with Rogers, and it is supposed to have unlimited social networking and unlimited music download. I get neither of these features. My twitter will never load and there is no option to download music. The phone also crashes and wipes out all contacts that I have. I am being overcharged for things that i don't use. They have terrible customer service. The prices are not reasonable. At all. They ask for $50/month with only half of the services working. Do no go with Rogers.
I really advise going wih koodo. I'm not a salesperson and I'm not paid to say to join with koodo. They are the only place I know where you can get an iPhone with no contract for plans starting at $15/month. Rogers will make you sign a three year contract and pay $65/month. It's way to overpriced. They also have high data using rates, and you would have to pay addition for call display. Koodo, you pay $33.60/month and get 100 minutes throughout Canada, call display, voicemail, and unlimited text and picture messaging. FOR AN IPHONE. I looked for a few months and all other providers will charge you $65/month with a three year contract. This includes Rogers, telus, fido, virgin mobile, mobile city. So most providers.
Chart is good too, but there are certain zones, but the zones are unlimited so hate good.
Hope this helps :)
