How many people are planning on getting a Windows 7 Phone from Nokia?

It looks like an amazing device and the OS is pretty damn good with the Mango update. However, I've had so many Windows-related frustrations in life that I don't think I could buy it. I'm trying to convince myself I should but it's just not working.

I'd buy it just to stand out lol, among all these iphone using friends.... it's sad really how every single one of your friend owns an iphone! time to look for new friends

I was really considering switching out my N8 for an N9 (importing from somewhere) or switching to Android altogether, but after I kept seeing the news about "SeaRay", and seeing hands on Mango update, I'm really considering getting one.

I alays thought Nokia's hardware was great. They are really the only people who can build a QWERTY keyboard to rival a BlackBerry.
The thing that was always lacking with them was their software so Nokia and Windows are a match made in heaven.
I will be keeping a close eye on these phones!

Definitely interested in a Nokia Lumia to the point of willing to import an unlocked phone. But, horrible news today from Nokia that the Unlocked phones won't ship until First Quarter 2012..
re: WP7
When I saw your post it reminded me of this comic I read earlier today:
http://www.istartedsomething.com/20111109/psa-please-get-the-name-of-windows-phone-right/
Seriously though, I am glad that Nokia is clearly marketing the phone as a "Windows Phone" in Europe and dropping any reference to 7 or 7.5. While "Mango" is a great buzzword for the revamped OS, it's not an official name for Windows Phone 7.5, or #WP7 (and Windows Mobile refers to 6.5).

The new Nokia WP7 phones look amazing, and WP7 has definitely matured enough to take it seriously. The Mango update really helped polish things up quite a bit.
Early on, I was thinking Windows Phone 7 would sink into obscurity as another unsuccessful proprietary OS. The fact this is a windows branded product actually gives me the impression of quality, knowing it is backed by a company who stands by their products, will release updates, and isn't likely to ditch the entire platform anytime soon

I'm definitely considering getting a Nokia W7P mainly because I've enjoyed my time with Nokia, I have the 5800 Xpress Music, and when I do upgrade to another Nokia it will have W7P because of Nokia's desire to join up with MS.
I've used Android through the Asus Eee Pad Transformer and it's okay. I'm not big on apps personally, so while it might be great that Android has millions of them, I would like a phone that works first as a phone. I have no intentions of jumping on the Apple Bandwagon so I would look forward trying the new OS, W7P.
Probably the best thing with W7P is the better integration that it will provide with my PC.

I got my Nokia 5800 two years ago, and it was really depressing after watching more smartphones come out. I don't think I would enjoy WP7, compared to other OSs out there. While I like having all of my information on the home screen (which is why I'm not a fan of iOS), it's just too bland and kind of cluttered in a way. I use my phone more as a media device (hence my hatred for my 5800) so Android seems like the best way for me to go for my next device.
Gotta say though, Nokia does make some attractive handsets, but they'll probably never have the software to convince me get another one of their devices.

I want one. I'm hoping Koodo gets the Nokia Lumia 710 or whatever the lower end model is when it comes out here.

Using an Android tablet is not going to give you a good idea of how an Android phone is like. I have both the Eee Pad and the Desire Z. My Desire Z is a phone and it works as a phone. I would suggest you try out an Android phone before you dismiss Android phones. Likewise, trying out a Windows 8 tablet is not going to give you and idea of how a Windows phone is going to work as a phone.
I am impressed with the physical hardware of the Nokia phones. It's the Windows Phone OS that doesn't impress me. As for OS's, I'm more impressed with Nokia Belle than Windows Phone.

Genuine question here.
I don't have as much experience with WP7 phones as I do with Blackberry, Android and IOS. What does WP7 offer that would make a user of other platforms want to switch over ?

If you have an android or iPhone handset, you can actually try the WP7 environment: SEE FOR YOURSELF HERE (http://abetoy.blogspot.com/2011/12/experience-windows-phone-7-on-your.html)

It's not that I haven't seen it before and it looks ok, but what I am asking is why would someone want to switch over to it from Android or iPhone?

Here's a link to an article from Maximum PC Magazine.
http://www.maximumpc.com/article/features/10_reasons_why_windows_phone_7_better_android (10 Reasons Why WP7 is beter than Android)
For me, it's about ecosystem. I'm excited about the possibilities of Windows 8, and the level of integration it will offer from my phone, to a tablet, to my desktop PC. I want something that will work simply, I'm not interested in all the futzing about required with Android.

I wasn't overly impressed with the article as the writer has some clear biases and makes a lot of assumptions based on his personal beliefs instead of facts. I hope this article isn't used as a "poster child" for converting people to WP7 :-)

Yeah, it is refreshing to see different points of view on mobile platforms, but that article did see a little slanted (no more so than many Apple/Android articles).
The one item on the list I like is Office integration. I don't like Google Docs even on a PC, and I'm thoroughly disappointed with the mobile app and interface. There's no doubt in my mind that Microsoft will have a better office product than Google if it doesn't already.

as of right now i'll be getting the 900 when it hits canada
my mobile OS's in the last year
1 year ago my wife and i were both using android (2.3)
today she is using a iphone 4s and ive using a samsung focus for 6 months
WP7 is a smooth and slick OS compared to android. i prefer the look/UI of WP7 over IOS but that's my personal opinion.
IOS handles podcasts and video's much better then WP7 and i miss google maps on android. i'm hopeful Nokia drive/maps is better then bing maps/navi
i'm currently using her iphone while she visit's her parents in another country (facetime/imessage with the ipad)
so far i prefer WP7 and she prefers IOS however we would both rank the two OS's over android.

I'm considering buying one, but I'm waiting for the Lumia 800 to be for sale off contract (for telus). If anyone knows of anywhere selling it off contract, PM me please :)

I actually thought of buying Nokia Windows phone especially the new 900 but I carefully researched Windows phone and decided to go with the White 64GB N9. Coming from Galaxy S phone, I'm excited. My phone has been giving me a lot of troubles especially on the OS side so I decided to go with Meego and Nokia. N9 has everything I need and from what I've seen and read, the whole process is smooth.

If it wasn't for the annoying capacitive touch buttons on all Nokia Lumia phone (except 710), I would say that I am madly in love with the hardware, so I'm just gonna say that I love it :)
Maybe it's just a personal pet peeve, but those capacitive buttons that phone manufacturers keep adding to their smartphones aren't practical at all. You can't use them with gloves on (winter time) and you'll always be accidentally touching them (most annoying when playing a game).

I have a 900 on pre-order from Rogers and that phone can't get here soon enough. I'm currently running an LG Quantum Windows Phone from Bell.

I really want to get the Lumia 900 but I still have nearly 2 years on my contract at Bell so it will need to work on Bell's network. I currently have the HtC-HD7 but I don't know how to buy a Lumia 900 that will be sure to work on Bell. The Lumia also has a micro SIM which my HD7 doesn’t--does that matter? Where does one find out information like this. The Bell dealers are absolutely clueless about it.

My practical side is telling me to do the same but those cyan Lumia 900s looks so good I would like to buy one even if it meant only keeping it until Nokia releases a killer Apollo phone with PureView (which may or may not be this year). Nokia will have Apollo phones out by the end of the year but will they have the one we want?

I'm sure they will put out something I want as they could just do another 800/900 design with windows 8 and Pureview, even if its not the 41MP sensor I'd be fine with that as the software tech for Pureview is the key. Though 41MP wouldn't hurt but it will likely just drive up the price and not really provide ME with that much of an added bonus.
I don't think i 'll have a huge problem waiting as I have been using a LG Quantum which I think is one of the weakest if not the weakest ph0ne in the WP7 line up. But being unlocked and only costing me a 100$ it has been a great entry point into WP7
