OK so last week I went out and bought a BB Tour. I just finished packing the thing up to return under Bell Aliant's buyers remorse policy. I have had no experience with BB in the past and once I got over the initial high of owning the latest greatest BB I realized I really didn't want the thing considering the price I had to pay and the plan I had to settle with. So I will return it. In any event, buying a new phone from Bell sucks right now with the new network and possible new phones to come with it, seemingly just around the corner. So with this return I may just ask for my money back and stick with my old Razr until I make up my mind. I want a phone I can do some texting talking and surfing with. I want all of these expeirnecs to be decent so I present to you my list of options and would love to hear from you all. I am very accustom to my ipod touch and would love to have that browsing experience, and the option of WIFI. I would like to avoid a smartphone and the plan that comes with it, but I could be won over by the phone. I know the specs of the phones I have listed below, just looking for any user feedback or anyone who has been in this dilemma before.

What does bell consider a smartphone?

Options
Samsung Vice
LG Rumor 2
HTC Touch Pro (already being outclassed by the pro 2, anyone now if/when that will come to bell?)
LG Bliss (seems pretty girly to me)
Palm Pre
Or just wait until the new network phones start showing up possibly Jan 2010??.

Thanks in advance.

Also throw the outdated LG voyager onto that list.

I have not been in your position before, but just to make another device to your list, Bell is rumoured to bring on the iPhone when they launch the new network. This might be good for you as you like your iPod.

It doesn't really seem like you're firm on what you want or what your budget is.

Lower cost browsing:
HTC Touch with the Unlimited Mobile Browser Option
HTC 6800, if you manage to get one of these, has WiFi
Palm Treo 700WX, again, if you can get one somehow, can get WiFi with a card adapter

Low cost smartphone w/ data plan:
Samsung Ace
Palm Centro

Higher cost w/ data plan:
Palm Pre

Ok so in the end I have it narrowed down to the Vice, Rumor 2, and the Bliss.
I will wait until tomorrow to see the Bliss and make my decison. I held the dummy Bliss phone, but I fear the touchscreen is too small to make a viable landscape keyboard. I will find out tomorrow.

Let me know what you think of the Bliss, I've been considering that one.

Here is what I posted on the LG Bliss thread in this forum:
Ok a bit more on my Bliss Experience...

As you know I returned it for a Samsung Vice, and here are my reasons:

--Text entry was brutal, I can handle the touchscreen but the lack of auto correction is a killer. It's a fairly small keyboard layout and mistakes a frequent. I know they give you a stylus and I imagine it helps, but they phone is dinky enough looking without a stylus that looks like a mascara case dangling from it.

--Fixing a mistake. Once you make a mistake and try to navigate back in the message to fix it, your in for a real treat. The lack of any physical directional pad combined with the inaccuracy of the touchscreen making it ipossible to place you cursor in the right place via fingertip to backspace.

--Passwords. Like you'd expect the password are stars but that's it. It's not like my touch where you get 0.5 seconds to each character as you type. I owned it a week and never got into my FB or gmail with the thing due to incorrect passwords.

--False confirmation. You press a key and the letter kinda hovers above your finger a la the ipod touch, and you even get haptic feedback as you type. But once you look at your message you realize half the keystrokes did not register.

--Web kinda sucks on this, I mean I realize it's a phone, but even the vice handles things better.

--Direct sunlight makes it hard to see what you are doing, and since you need the screen even to dial, it's kind of a pain.

--It looks girly, flowers on the battery (not that anyone will know) the back of the thing is sparkly and also the mascara looking stylus doesn't help. You better be secure in your manliness if you are gonna own this thing.

Somethings I did like:
--The calendar is nice, it even lets you set a daily re occurrence that doesn't happen every day, but in my instance every 9th day.

--Nice big viewing area.

--Text alerts work well.

The customizable home screens are a nice feature but aren't as customizable as you think.

I would welcome any more questions.

Take a look at the thread for more info/opinions.

Have you seen the video of the BL 40 review? From that, it is looking quite good.

when is that coming to Canada? When TELUS launches the new network?

I don't think anyone can say for sure. Near the beginning, I would think.
