So the title pretty much sums it up. I got my first ever Blackberry Bold 9780 locked to Rogers. Plan to unlock this phone and use it as a back up/travel phone. I am currently with Bell, with an Android plan so I have the regular 6GB Data.

I have a few questions.

(1) When I unlock, can I use my Bell sim just to get voice/data?
(2) For me to use the net on the go, I need to get a Blackberry Plan/Data Plan correct?
(3) Without a BB plan/data, can I use BBM over WiFi?

Sorry for the noob questions.

Thanks

Update: So I popped in my Bell sim and unlocked the phone. Now Mobile Network is enabled on the Bold and my data works, in the sense I can access web pages and even my Bell self serve via their url. I still have my 6GB smart phone data active. Didn't switch to BB data.

If am not mistaken, will my BBM work too?

not without BIS enabled, and if it's not a bb data plan, it won't have it.

So regular data works but not BBM right?

I tried adding a friend's pin and they said it didn't go through. I also told them to add mine and nothing.

I have the option of adding the $15 unlimited bbm and email but like I said, my Blackberry is just a backup phone to use in case of anything that happens to my SGS II, plus I'll be only using it mostly for voice/text and web browsing which clearly works on my current plan. So that's fine. Also don't have much friends on bbm but hey.

A pain to add/remove that $15 plan whenever I switch back and forth.

Wow thats a lot of money to blow on a "backup".

I'd comment more, but I have to be at the gym in 26 minutes.

That weird since I don't have to pay any extra charges fir BIS on my 6gb data plan.
