If you buy a Wind phone, chances are your phone will NOT get any software updates past 12 months.

Wind sells the Nokia 5230 & C7. Nokia provides updates for phones it manufactures. Wind blocks the 5230 & C7 from receiving updates. (confirmed via phone call to support)

Yes, i know... Symbian/WP7... but the C7 still has Anna and Belle updates, plus any other updates up to 2016. yada yada, both sides can argue until cows fly.

The CSR stated the only way for my 5230 & C7 can get updates is by bringing it into a Wind service centre ***IF IT IS WITHIN THE WARRANTY PERIOD***

No updates if it is outside of the warranty period & U R screwed if you don't want to go the hacking route.

Some phones are advertised as OTA featured... Wind should advise customers that feature has been blocked.

Not sure if this also applies to Android, Blackberry & WP7 phones, but Wind's policy is clear about ONLY allowing Wind service centres to update their phones.

My suggestion, each time you call to do something like pay a bill, change of address, support issues, complain about Wind crippling your phone. Take as much of their time as you can as often as you can.

(yes i did post this to another website... but only because i'm sooooo mad)

Most providers lock down the updates until they feel they are ready to deploy them. If a phone is out of warranty, that's up to Nokia to provide the update to Wind. Wind make the decision to let you have the updates....however......

you can always unlock the phone, fire in a Mobi SIM card and get the update from nokia...

It's a pain to deal with, but it's a reality.

Yeah they are not the only carrier that does that. If you want to get updates directly from the source get a Nexus series phone, updates directly from Google ;)

Rule #1 of phone purchasing:
Do not expect that a provider-branded phone to let you have updates.

Rule #2 of phone purchasing:
If rule #1is unacceptable to you, buy the unbranded, unlocked version.
