Hello,

I am new here so I have to apologize if this has been asked before. Currently with Fido (no contract) and no data plan. Pondering to get the unlocked Galaxy S II from sites like Expansys.

What I am not sure is: Is there multiple versions of the phone, or there is one phone that is capable to switch bands? I am asking because the Mobilicity/Wind unlimited data plan is definitely very tempting comparing with the data plan offer by Rogers/Fido. I want to know if I get the phone, whether I will have the ability to switch later on...

Assuming it is compatible to all carriers, is there special things that needs to be done to switch network (other than getting a new SIM card + Plan)?

(I am not clear on whether the phone is Mobilicity/Wind Compatible)

Thank you very much.

From what ive read the galaxy s2 supports 3g umts/hspa on these bands:850, 1700*and*1900. So it will work with rogers, bell, and telus. Or any of there subsidiary companies like Fido.

However if you decide to jump ship to Wind there 3g umts is on 1700. Unfortunately the galaxy s2 doesn't support 3g umts on that frequency and you will get 2g edge. Its not adequete for data usage but for phone calls it will be fine.

One thing to note if you decide to purchase the s2 you will not get warranty in Canada if you need it serviced. If you also plan to go to wind I would wait for the T-Mobile variant of the galaxy s2 to take advantage of 3g/hspa for data.

Hopefully this will help you in your decision.
