Hey Folks,
Just a quick note that I received my SGS2 today from the Clove in the UK. All the videos and pictures of it on the web just don't do it enough justice.
I was doing some comparisons with my buddies Nexus S this evening and all I can say is wow!!! The SGS2 is so much faster in every way! :)
This phone blows me away! So glad I decide to go this way!

How much was it to bring it to Canada?

440 GBP for phone
20 GBP for shipping
50 CDN for customs
3+ days with phone and loving it. Yes its a lot for a phone however its mine, not tied to any contract as my provider has me on month-month plan so I can switch to another provider when and if I want. I have used the 1080p video recorder a few times on Mothers Day and the video is better than my Panasonic HD camera and SGS2 just fits in the pocket. Super light, super thin, super fast and battery usage has been great!

So at todays exchange rate that brings the total to about $780 cdn for the phone.

Hi,
Sounds about right. When my credit cards was charged back at the middle of April it was about $30 or so lower.
Some may say that's a lot for a phone however considering when you are paying $500 for a Nexus S, Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate 4G (Telus) $530 and $700 (approx) for a iphones......I own this phone that sports a 2x 1.2 ghz, 4.3 inches, Super Amoled + screen, HSPA+ 21Mbps, 1080P video and 2.3 Gingerbread. Sure this phone will be available in North America (currently Qtr 3.....Aug to Oct?) but I have it now.
Just saying.......
Cheers.

Not sure why you would even compare those 2 phones...they are not even in the same class.

I've been considering doing the same thing. I've never bought an unlocked phone before (or an Android phone) so I'm a little worried about making sure it works properly on a carrier that doesn't officially support it or have its own settings pre-installed.
Do you need to know special APN settings to get it to work with you carrier? Could the phone have features that won't work with a carrier? Could some carrier features not work with the phone? (call display, voice mail, etc..)
Does the charger for your S2 have a British-style plug that needs an adapter in Canada? Can you just charge it through USB? Does the phone have any warranty?
And are there any other potential issues I haven't thought of?
I'm probably being a bit paranoid here but I don't want to risk spending a lot of money and ending up with a paperweight. If anyone has advice it would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,
I did have a APN settings problem however that was just because MTS here in Manitoba is brand new to the HSPA band and didn't have there **** together. APN's were fixed in 5 minutes.
I have all the features and everything works. I have the unlimited data and no contract for $54.95/month. I am ok with that. I have also been able to tether my laptop without any issues.
The charger was the 3 prong plug from the UK however I had an adapter that I use for travelling and have no issues charging. It also has the USB charger as well and I also picked up a car charger. As for a warranty, yes it does but with Samsung. So I cannot run into a local Telus or Rogers or such and deal with issues with phone hardware problems.
I understand your issues and concerns as I too had them. I had no cell phone and could bring myself to by an Atrix, HD Desire or Nexus S......yes I know there is no comparision but that is all we are currently stuck with here in Canada. I bite the bullit and ordered this and so happy I did so.

In case you are interested in the price for the tax and duty, FedEx made me pay $41 when they came with the device, upon delivery in BC.
I bought my Galaxy S2 from handtec.co.uk (also known as GPSK LTD). Ordered on July 1 (weekend day), arrived on July 5.
Here is the receipt:

Hope this is helpful! (and yes despite reading about the hype for weeks, I am still impressed now that I have one).

So I notice that Arcticsushi had to pay customs charges but not GST while nomis_md paid GST and a processing fee but no customs charges.
Arcticsushi, did you ship via DHL Int Courier or the Airsure Tracked Mail?
The HandTec option seems better as it's a bit cheaper: $630 vs $645 from Clove.

So not that we all have a GS2, what have you done to yours? I've just downloaded a few apps and re-arranged my home screen. Anyway I can get rid of these Bell pre-loaded apps?
