really doesn't seem like a promo when you got these kind of devices on the line. More like a plea bargain to get rid of crappy phones.

If they put the Storm on sale then I would buy... It has to drop below $150 for me to purchase

First off I am not a Telus dealer, but I believe the cost to dealers is relevant as to how low the carriers are willing to drop the price on the Storm.

Telus and Bell are both $249 on 3 yr
Telus $599 buyout
Bell $699 buyout

Dealer cost: $834 + gst

Knowing the price on data and smartphone bundles, this is still a heavy cost to recoup on a 3 yr term (actually 2 yr with upgrade eligibility).

Just the ramblings of a soon to be old man

I don't get it...
A dealer buys the phone for $834 + gst, sells it for $249... does the dealer make the monthly plans or does Telus keep that? How are they so profitable then?

Corp stores may operate different but private stores like myself get the cost of the unit covered only. $834 - $249 = $585 checque at months end to cover my cost.

I promote a large number of accessories to keep my profit margin alive.

Rate plans are created and maintained by the carriers. Dealers act as facilitator to complete the paperwork between consumer and carrier.

Dealers do so much more, but going into further detail would sound like whining and I have had my cheese for the day :D
