I am currently just 10 months in on a 2yr contract with a Samsung Impact, but I really want the new HTC Incredible S. I called customer service, but as expected the couldn't help me out. They have sent a request to customer solutions and they are suppose to call me in the next couple of days. Is there anything I can say that might help me get my Incredible without paying the full $499 or am I SOL?

You could offer them your first born child. Aside from that, I think you're SOL. Hopefully customer relations can help you.

most times virgin allows you to "upgrade" your phone by having you buy out your remaining months but they will split the cancellation with you....call and inquire as they might let you do that and then u can get the incredible s for $99

This.

Your fee at this point would be $280 (assuming 14 months remaining), so if they are willing to cut it in half (as they often do) you will pay $240 to get the Incredible S on a new term/tab ($99 + $140).

Well I received a call from "Customer solutions" today. No phone upgrade. They said they would only split the cancellation fee if I was within a year of my renewal.

Well you're gonna have to wait 2 months. Don't fret - Virgin should have some better phones in by then.

If you are very desperate, you could cancel your plan completely, and start a new contract on a 3 year, no? Or, seeing as you activated your plan prior to November, you could lower your other plan to $15/month (50 text + 50 minutes) for the remainder, which would be cheaper than buying out your contract, and get another phone under your name, with a new number. This is possible if you have no spending cap.

Actually, I did think of that, but I wanted to keep my number (had it forever). I called virgin and was told they could just swap the serial numbers so I could keep my number on the new phone. I went to the store and had the phone. The sales person didn't think it would be a problem, called virgin, they said it wasn't possible (after I was told otherwise). I had her(sales person) call again, and the new person on the phone said they were in training to it but couldn't. So I basically wasted my time, the retailers and I am no-longer in the mood to give virgin anymore money then I have too. I also called customer service to complain when I got home, talk to a customer service manager and "senior" customer service manger. They seemed unwilling to help in any way. It seems so stupid a company wouldn't take an extra 50-60/month from me. Business must be good. lol

Well, I'm trying to think of how we could go about keeping your number. If it's super crucial, the only option that comes to mind would be a HW upgrade, but you'd be stuck paying $500, whist still on the remainder of your term.

You'd be much better adding another line to the account, getting it for 99, and lowering your other to the 15/mn plan (cost $210) You'd save yourself $190.

Unless your phone is business, it is pretty easy to update contact #'s.

or you could wait. You may be eligible for an upgrade in 9 months or so.

Actually its $280 to break the contract, and customer solutions said if I wait till June (1 year remaining) they will cut it in half. Maybe I will wait to see who gets the new Galaxy 2.
