hey,

I am guessing we will be seeing the pearl flip after Telus' launch so it may just be a month or two away :)

It is interesting to see units such as the Pearl Flip cross platform to CDMA. It took 6 or 8 months for that to happen but only weeks for the Storm to cross to GSM. (I know it goes deeper that that but this is a quick statement only)
CDMA, although impressive with it's technology is still only a small portion of the GSM based phones sold around the globe. I can only hope that one day both technologies are sold equally which would have manufactures launching phones for both technologies simultaneously. Then again the Bell/Telus overlay of GSM may complicate that situation in Canada.
Ah well, time will tell.

Finally they have come out with a CDMA version of the Flip, but hopefully it has a lot memory because i have heard that you need more memory when it comes to having a CDMA device. True or false? This also is a plus for Telus, it gets a new bb device which they need more of.

Could be because the storm is a global cdma/gsm phone and will work on either network. No need to bring out a different model.

World phones on the Bell system, Motorola A840, Samsung Ace i325, BB 8830, BB Storm, without going into great detail are built with 2 engines or mechanics. The primary being CDMA and then of course the GSM goodies. As CDMA is the primary mechanic, the software is also designed to operate primarily on the CDMA network. Bell's world phones do not operate on GSM in North America, only overseas, UK, Asia, Africa etc.
The Storm cannot just be sold to Rogers as is. The unit has to have the mechanics rebuilt to have GSM as it's primary mechanic.
At this point, one of the few physical items that remain the same between the 2 units is the housing / touch screen.

In the early days, the world watched as Bell launched a renegade system using CDMA technology, if Bell flopped it was Bells loss, but if they succeeded... the entire would would benefit from a new technology.

I hope in the coming years that CMDA rivals GSM around the world so that both technologies will reap the benefits of manufactures creating phones simultaneously. Hence customers of the future can then decide which area is better serviced for their needs rather then choosing hardware that is "cool" but not have proper service coverage.

(Just the ramblings of a soon to be old man  )

If it comes in at 50 bucks i will be shocked

Even The Source, BB, FS are selling it for $0.00. I know it's a different carrier but they should at least price match.

I think if Bell comes out for a $0.00 promo, pretty sure TELUS will be launching this also at the same time so competition will be high... plus add this to the Smartphone bundle with Rolloever minutes and you have a prety solid offer...
