XM online+ app for Android now available

XM Canada has officially released their XM online+ for Android. The app has the same features as their iPhone, iPad, iPod and BlackBerry app where you get access to music, talk shows, sports and entertainment shows… basically over 100 different kinds of broadcasts that are on XM. The price is $7.99 a month or if go the bundled route with your current XM subscription it’ll only $2.99 a month. In addition, they have a 14 day trial available.

BlackBerry Torch 9800 gets ripped apart…

The new BlackBerry Torch 9800 will be coming to Canada via Rogers, Bell, TELUS and Virgin Mobile. It’s a slider and it comes with RIM’s new BlackBerry 6 OS, 3.2-inch touchscreen display with a QWERTY keyboard, 624 MHz processor, 512 MB of internal flash memory, can hold up to 32GB with a microSD card, 5 megapixel camera with auto-focus and flash, WiFi, GPS… but enough of the specs. How about seeing the guts of the device.

White iPhone 4 delay caused by a “Rough & Bent effect” in manufacturing

Now that the new iPhone 4 has officially landed in Canada the next thing to wait for is the White version to actually become available. In a press release a couple weeks ago Apple stated that the “White models of Apple’s new iPhone 4 have continued to be more challenging to manufacture than we originally expected, and as a result they will not be available until later this year.”

According to WhiteiPhone4Now.com states reason a delay is due to the manufacturing process that caused a “Rough & Bent effect on the frame and made it not sit flush on the middle frame”. Apparently Apple has changed the way the White models are being made with a recently improved manufacturing process. On another note they also state that their OEM source says “there are no signs that a hardware fix for the antenna issue is underway.”

“Poynt” now available on Android devices

Calgary-based Multiplied Media has created a successful location based app called “Poynt”. It’s been available on the iPhone and BlackBerry device for some time, but it’s now available for Android users to enjoy. The app is free and can help you find phone numbers, addresses, maps, directions and offers features to read movie reviews, view trailers, purchase movie tickets and book dining reservations.

Samsung looking for 30 “Mobilers” to be brand ambassadors

Samsung Canada is looking for some help. They’ve put together a Facebook contest called “Samsung Mob!ler” where you could take home a Android Galaxy Vibrant. That’s not event the best part of the contest. If you win you’ll get access to new devices, help develop future apps and possibly visit the Samsung headquarters in Korea.

There are 30 positions open and Samsung describes a “Mob!ler” as brand ambassador who “loves all things mobile and spends vast amounts of time online. Always at the hottest events in their city. Can be found on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube or blogging in their spare time.”

It’s interesting but it’s only for those living in Vancouver, Toronto and Montréal. The contest goes until August 11th, 2010 at 11:59:59.

Here’s another set of unreleased videos that show off both the upcoming BlackBerry 9800 and RIM’s new BlackBerry 6 (version 6.0.0.100). Salomondrin takes a walk through the media capabilities such as music, videos, pics. Then does a demo of the new WebKit browser compared to an older BlackBerry… clearly dominates over other Berry browsers from the past. Check it out here

Molson Canadian releases the “Seize the Summer” App

Didn’t know about this app that Molson Canadian created. It’s called the “Seize the Summer App” and you earn “virtual badges” every time you do something. You’ll have to first join their Facebook group here and then download the app but basically when you do something this summer such as catch a fish, go on a road trip, see a moose, jump, drink beer etc… you log on to Facebook, report it and you’ll collect a badge. The end result is that you get entered into a draw to win one of 16 cross-Canada tips. The app is available on Blackberry, Android device and will be coming soon to the iPhone.

Analyst: Total recall of the iPhone 4 could cost $900 million

More talk around this much talked about Apple iPhone 4 antenna issues. RBC Capital Markets Analyst Mike Abramsky says that if Apple goes the route of doing a “broad repair scenario, or even a full recall” of the iPhone 4 it could cost upwards of $900 million… to which he said “Apple can easily afford it”. In a report Abramsky pointed out that if the antenna issue effects 100% of iPhone 4 users Apple has 3 possible scenarios:

1. Provide cases (Bumpers) to 3 million people would cost $45 million
2. Repair 3 million iPhone 4 handsets would cost $300 million
3. A complete recall of the iPhone 4 would cost $900 million

Apple has not confirmed that a recall is going to happen. Abramsky stated that regardless of what Apple decides to do “We expect iPhone 4 demand may rebound quickly, still outpacing supply and – along with global channel fill – may mitigate possible near-term slowdown in sell-through. The issue, in our opinion, is likely to blow over with media and consumers refocusing on iPhone 4′s appeal, market opportunity and strong demand.”

XM app for Android “will be available later this summer”

XM Canada recently released an app for called XM online+ for the iPhone and BlackBerry and iPhone. This app gives you access to the all the music, talk, sports and entertainment shows on XM and will cost $7.99 per month or $2.99 a month when bundled it with a XM Canada subscription. They do have a 14 day trial available before you put your money down.

Today they announced an iPad app but more importantly for those who want to give this a go with your Android device, XM states that “an application for Android will be available later this summer”.
