Virgin HTC Legend Unboxed & Hardware Review

Virgin launched the HTC Legend and it’s a great addition to their lineup. Over the past few months – ever since Bell took complete control of them and hopped onto HSPA – they have insanely started to offer better devices. A few to mention are the BlackBerry Bold 9700, Pearl 3G, Apple iPhone and now their first Android-powered device.

We got hold of a Legend and did a quick unboxing and hardware review. The overall design looks almost identical to the HTC Hero, but a main difference is that the handset is made from one piece of aluminum. This certainly makes it more appealing to look at. It also feels great in the hand and only weighs in at 126 grams – but I’m honestly scared to drop this thing as I feel it’ll shatter on me. We’ll actually follow up with a drop test video and report back. The Legend has a 3.2 touchscreen display that has a HVGA resolution of 320 x 480.

In the box you get the standard stuff like warrant, quick start guide, wall charger/ Micro-USB connector, earphones. When it comes other aspects of the hardware… you’ll see in the video that there are minimal buttons: volume rocker on the left side, Home, Menu, Back and Search on the front along with a optical trackball that’s flush to the device. In addition this comes with a 3.5 mm headset jack. On the back it comes with a 5 megapixel camera with flash, auto-focus and can shoot video. The Legend also has a 1300 mAh battery. To insert the SIM and microSD card you slide the rubberized bottom cover on the back down.

Overall very impressed with the hardware – super slim. It’s probably best to get a case of some sorts. In the next review we’ll go more into Android OS 2.1, HTC Sense, Friend Stream, Android Market etc…

Samsung Link Video Review

If you’re looking for a texting device that has the style of a full smartphone without the cost, then you’ll love the Samsung Link. This little beast is meant for texting and has a full QWERTY keyboard. We’ve been playing around with the Link for a bit and love how easy it is to start using.

This device is truly meant for texters. The keyboard is somewhat tight, but the more you text the more you get used to using it. With overall dimensions of 6.1(w) x 1.3(h) x 11.23(d) cm it’s lightweight and weighs in at only 106 grams. One of the key features of the Link is that it can hold up to 16GB of memory with a microSD card. So you can put all your music in their (great speakers and 3.5 mm headset jack), all your pictures – this comes with a 1.3 megapixel camera (self portrait mirror).

Some other key notable attributes are the 2.2 inch LCD screen, Bluetooth 2.0, assisted GPS, Speakerphone and MP3 player. honestly though, if you want a texting device at an affordable cost, this should be one to consider. It looks good, feels light and is available at Bell, Virgin and Solo.

Virgin releases the “Handy Flip” Samsung M320

A few weeks ago we let you know that Virgin was going to add the Samsung m320 to its lineup. Today, the days has come and I must say the price point is bang on for this basic entry device.

Virgin is calling the m320 a “Handy Flip phone”. This barely comes with a camera (0.3 megapixel VGA Camera), 1.9” inch screen, Bluetooth, text messaging, calendar, overall dimensions are 91 x 48 x 18 mm, weight 95 grams. The good news is that it is $0.00 on a 3-year plan. Other price plans are:

2-year plan: $29.99
1-year plan: $49.99
Prepaid: $79.99

The love is over… Virgin puts Curve up to $99

When Virgin launched the BlackBerry Curve back in November it was priced accordingly at $49.99. Then the seesaw began to happen. As with any price fluctuations one must compete… and Virgin did compete very well. After the holiday season Virgin increased the price to $79.99, then around Valentine’s Day they slammed the price down to $39.99.

Today it seems they have jacked up the Curve to $99.99 on a 3-year contact to price match TELUS, Bell and Rogers.

Virgin Mobile Canada sponsors Britney Spears’ Circus Tour

Virgin Mobile is sponsoring the upcoming Britney Spears “Circus” concerts in Canada. Five concerts dates in the March and April time period will see her in Toronto, Montreal, Edmonton and Vancouver. Also, if she is not reason enough to go… the Pussy Cat Dolls are opening us the show for her.

By this time we can expect Virgin to release some new devices by then.

Virgin Mobile Canada launches LG Rumour

Virgin Mobile released the LG Rumour and is available in black and white. Available with a number of different plans that start at $79.99 on a 3-year plan to pre-paid for 199 bucks. If you buy online before July 31st you can get a $25 activation credit.

The Rumour is a candy bar style phone that slides open to show its full QWERTY keyboard – great for texting and sending e-mails (you get 5 personal email accounts on Virgin Mobile email). In addition, the Rumour has features that includes a 1.3 megapixel camera/camcorder, Bluetooth capabilities and speakerphone. Other features include standards such as calendar, contacts, tasks and notes.

The Rumour weighs 117 grams and is 109 x 51 x 17.8 mm, has 4.5 hours of talk time and the display is 176 x 220 pixels.
