The Samsung S275 and the LG F4n are making the rounds in Canada. Both take a page out of the 1990′s and are probably selling incredibly well with its $100 price tag. The Samsung S275 has now found its way onto the Bell and Solo Mobile lineup for $99.95 – this entry-level flip has a 1.77-inch display and a 1.3 megapixel camera. As for the LG F4n, this was recently released on Eastlink and Videotron and will soon be making an appearance on SaskTel. This flip is also $99.95 outright and barely has a camera (1.3MP).

If you’re looking for a texting device that has the style of a full smartphone without the cost, then you’ll love the Samsung Link. This little beast is meant for texting and has a full QWERTY keyboard. We’ve been playing around with the Link for a bit and love how easy it is to start using.

This device is truly meant for texters. The keyboard is somewhat tight, but the more you text the more you get used to using it. With overall dimensions of 6.1(w) x 1.3(h) x 11.23(d) cm it’s lightweight and weighs in at only 106 grams. One of the key features of the Link is that it can hold up to 16GB of memory with a microSD card. So you can put all your music in their (great speakers and 3.5 mm headset jack), all your pictures – this comes with a 1.3 megapixel camera (self portrait mirror).

Some other key notable attributes are the 2.2 inch LCD screen, Bluetooth 2.0, assisted GPS, Speakerphone and MP3 player. honestly though, if you want a texting device at an affordable cost, this should be one to consider. It looks good, feels light and is available at Bell, Virgin and Solo.

The LG Rumour 2 was recently released by Bell and Solo and is a nice upgrade to the original model. There are a key couple features that make this stand out. If you are in the market for a texting device this is one you should consider as it’s currently priced right and incredibly simple to use.

The Rumour 2 feels solid in the hand as it only weighs 117 grams with overall dimension of 4.41 x 2.05 x 0.70 inches. The main difference with this device is that it’s much more curved in style, the directional pad is now square and this has a slide-out 4-row QWERTY keyboard with designated emoticon key and dedicated directional left, right, up and down keys now added. The keyboard is nicely spaced out and the keys feel great too, somewhat raised on the keyboard and also raised on the front of the device. The dedicated keys make this a breeze to text/IM with.

This has a 2-inch QVGA display with a 240 x 320 and has can hold a surprisingly 16GB of memory. The speakers are ok when it comes to the music, but what we would have like to have seen is a better camera. This only has a 1.3 megapixel camera (can take video also) and the picture quality is decent but nothing to impressive. As this does come with a music player where you can throw all your music in, it has a 2.5 mm stereo headset jack (would have like to see the standard 3.5mm installed).

You can check out the video below for further details, but one more concern we have for the Rumour 2 is the web. We found it slow and a bit of a challenge to use as it relied on the directional pad (or the new dedicated arrow keys) and the website text links to get around… we had to remember why this phone is such a great seller and it’s because it’s mainly a texting device… and as a texting device it’s one of the best out there.

Bell for the following price plans: 3-year contract: $39.95; 2-year contract: $119.95; 1-year contract: $219.95 and Outright/Prepaid: $269.95. This is also available with Solo here outright for $160 or $50 on a 2-year term.

Here you have a minimum monthly fee of $40 and gets you 1000 “anytime”, includes Call Waiting, Call Forwarding and 3-way calling. The kicker of a plan like this is the extras though: $0.15 text messages (incoming/outgoing), additional minutes are $0.30, long distance is $0.30 a minute.

Also, with the standard one-time activation charge of $35.00, monthly system access fee of $6.95 and 9-1-1 service fee of $0.50. The totals really add up – Base plan of $40, plus $42.45 for first month charges, plus any additional charges = go for another plan.

The Motorola KRZR is another attempt to launch a phone that has some serious style with it. The KRZR is certainly slim as its previous model RAZR, however it comes in a bit bigger (RAZR is .54″ thin and the KRZR is .67″). The KRZR comes with a 1.3MP camera, a MicroSD card slot for memory expansion, voice dialing, a speakerphone, Bluetooth and music player. Distributed by Bell, Rogers, Fido & Telus the model comes in black, gray and dark pearl gray… with a reflective mirror on the back. Quite nice.

The actual battery life is good (reaches about 5 hours of talk time) and outlasts previous Motorola models as this is loaded with a generous 880 mAh Lithium Ion battery.
