WIND Mobile to release the HTC Radar (Windows Phone)

Late last week it was revealed that Videotron and SaskTel would be releasing the Windows Phone HTC Radar, now WIND Mobile has officially announced that the device is “coming soon” – it’ll be their first WP7 device. Specs have the Radar coming with a 3.8-inch display (resolution of 480 x 800), 1GHz processor, 5 megapixel camera which captures 720p HD videos, VGA front-facing camera. WIND Mobile has 425,000 subscribers

At last count the WIND Mobile subscriber base was up to 358,000. This number was from Q3 2011 and as we patiently wait for the Q4 and the complete 2011 numbers to roll in, Anthony Lacavera, WIND Mobile’s CEO, has stated to the Windsor Star that their total subs are now sitting around 425,000… which would mean that WIND had a stellar last few months with 67k subs. No reason was given as to the surge in subs, but could have been caused by their holiday plans and device lineup, or possibly their expanded coverage (Niagara, KW, Guelph, London)

WIND is on a hiring blitz for their Windsor call centre – there’s currently 100 employees and the wireless player could eventually hire up to another 100. WIND is staffing up to handle their 2012 expansion into Windsor, Barrie, Peterborough, Kingston, Belleville, Victoria, Halifax, Winnipeg, Saskatoon and Regina.

WIND dreams up 14 sensual smartphone positions called “Call-A-Sutra”

How does an “All Nighter”, “Cushion-Pushin”, “Rub Down”, “Blindfold Bang”, or the “Pelvic Pumper” sound? This is something the oozes Virgin Mobile, but in actuality it’s WIND Mobile who created these positions. Their new “Call-A-Sutra” is a Valentine’s Day focussed blitz that hopes to spread the love and spur on new ways for your partner(s) to connect. WIND said in a release that they recognized “that holding a phone to your ear just doesn’t do it for everyone”, and that over the next couple weeks they’ll announce new “sensual smartphone positions” everyday on Facebook.

Very risqué!! There are different levels of difficulty and WIND gave a couple descriptions: The beginner “The Rub Down: 1. With your right hand, bend slightly and rub your phone screen against your right leg to get rid of the facial residue left on it by a previous companion. 2. Your partner, unsure of where their phone has been, uses their left hand to wipe their phone on their left leg before answering your call.” – to expert like “The Blindfold Bang: 1. Walk with your head in a downward position. 2. Hold your phone with both hands and text your partner with your thumbs. 3. Unknowingly walk straight into a light pole. 4. Your partner, engrossed in your text, also walks with their head in a downward position. 5. Accidentally, they ram hard into a bike rack.”

WIND Mobile releasing the BlackBerry Bold 9790 on February 3rd, $399 outright

It was expected that WIND Mobile would be launching the BlackBerry Bold 9790 because an OS update was made available last week. Good news for those looking to score this BlackBerry 7 OS device as the launch date is now confirmed for February 3rd. The price points are currently the cheapest in Canada at $49 on WINDtab+ or $399 outright.

Specs of the Bold 9790 have it with a A 2.45-inch touchscreen display, full QWERTY keyboard with optical trackpad, 1GHz processor, 5MP camera and can hold up to 32GB with a microSD card. Overall dimensions are 11.4mm thin and weighs in at only 107 grams. Check out our full review here.

BlackBerry Curve 9360 in White heading to WIND Mobile

The BlackBerry Curve 9360 was released by WIND Mobile in November of last year – to keep things fresh for this entry-level Berry a new White version will be launched. Starting tomorrow you can expect to see the White Curve 9360 available at WIND locations across Canada for $299 outright, $99 on the WINDTab, or $0 on WINDtab+. The new white version will also be available for their new “Sharing the Love” promo.

WIND launching $65/month “Sharing the Love” plan – gives two Unlimited talk, text & data plans, plus two free Curve 9360s

Along with the $40/month “Leap” plan that Wind will be releasing, the “Share the Love Combo” deal is cometh as well. This will be available on February 2nd and as the internal doc above states it gives you and a friend “two unlimited talk, text, and data plans for only $65/month and two BlackBerry Curve 9360s for $0 on WINDtab”.

There are some fine details, but the skinny is that you’ll each have to sign up for the $25/month Smart plan ($50/month) and the $10 data add-on ($20/month), then factor in the Better Savings discount at $5/month… which then equals $65/month for both of you. So how does the free BlackBerry get involved? WIND will also be discounting the Curve 9360 to $99 on WINDtab on February 2nd. “When a customer purchases two BlackBerry Curve 9360s they will receive an additional $198 ($99 x 2) instant discount and get both phones for $0 each on WINDtab”.

A few other details to be aware of:
- The expiry date is currently February 29th, 2012
- It’s only available for the Curve 9360
- Voicemail is not included and either is unlimited Canada-wide Calling
- Both lines must be activated on the same account
- “This offer is available at WIND retail locations only and is not available through WIND customer
care or online”

WIND to officially release the Galaxy Nexus February 3rd

WIND was only teasing when they said that the Galaxy Nexus would be released “in time before Valentine’s Day”… hinting that it could be a couple weeks away. Well, in actuality, WIND will be making the anticipated Galaxy Nexus available on February 3rd for $599 outright, $449 on the WindTab, or $249 on the WINDTab+. Good show Wind. Good show…

WIND Mobile launching the $40/month “Leap” plan February 2nd

Starting February 2nd WIND will be coming out with another promo – this time it’s called the “Leap” plan and here are all the details:

- $40/month
- Unlimited Canada wide calling (including Wind-to-Wind)
- Unlimited text
- Unlimited Data (Including BIS for BlackBerry devices)
- Call Control Features (Caller ID, Call Forwarding, Missed Call Alerts, and Conference Calling)

Reading over the internal doc it seems that voicemail and Canada-wide picture messaging isn;t included. In addition, the plans will expire February 29th, 2012 and is open to current WIND customers, eligible with WINDtab+ and the those who sign up for the Better Together Savings discount.
