Bell and Virgin rollout HD Voice in Saskatchewan

Bell and Virgin rolled out HD Voice to most of Canada last January. This feature gave customers who owned various devices “better quality, clearer voice service experience.” There is no cost to have this feature and makes for an overall better voice experience. There were only couple provinces omitted from the initial launch, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. This was most likely due to the limited agreements between SaskTel and MTS.

However, good news for those located in Saskatchewan as HD Voice is now live in your area. This impacts both Bell and Virgin customers and again, no cost, just better voice quality. In order to use HD voice both callers must be either a Bell or Virgin customer, have a HD Voice compatible device and within the 4G HSPA+ coverage area. Here’s the complete list of compatible devices:

- HTC Raider 4G LTE
- BlackBerry Bold 9900

Virgin releases the Motorola MOTOLUXE for $230

$230 on a 30-day contract is the price Virgin Mobile has come forward with today for the Motorola MOTOLUXE. This is a bit better pricing than Bell’s $300 outright. Certainly something to think about. As stated earlier this runs OS 2.3 Gingerbread, has an 8MP camera and a 4-inch display.

Virgin rolls out new a “Smartphone 50 Voicemail/Call Display” promo that “practically sells itself”

Virgin says their latest price plan promo “practically sells itself!”

The newest plan on the block is a $50/month “Smartphone 50 Voicemail/Call Display” promo and it’s available until June 30th. “This plan is loaded with sweetness,” available to new & existing postpaid Members and gives you 150 minutes, Unlimited Incoming Calls, Unlimited Weekends & Evenings starting at 5pm, Unlimited Canada/US/International Text & Picture Messaging, Voicemail and Call Display. If you opt to go for this plan on a smartphone then you’ll get a whopping 100MB of Data included (overage is pegged in at $10/100MB). For those who use this plan on their BlackBerry, Virgin will throw in Unlimited BlackBerry Social – which is access to Facebook, Twitter, BBM.

Virgin looking for people to test out the upcoming Motorola MOTOLUXE

If Virgin Mobile didn’t put up the invitation for members to participate in their “Tester” program I would have forgotten about the upcoming Motorola MOTOLUXE launch. This will be released within the next couple weeks and if you want to grab hold of this device, test it out, and report your thoughts back to Virgin Mobile you should possibly claim one of five spots in Virgin’s Tester Team program. All you have to do is communicate in 100 words or less why you’d be the perfect candidate for the position.

In the terms and condition Virgin might have revealed the no-term pricing. They state that “There are five (5) spots to be filled on the VMC Tester Team. The total retail value of the prizes available is $2,500.00.” Since there are 5 spots with a combined value of 2,500 bucks, each would be $500.

Virgin to roll out new Smartphone and Prepaid plans May 9th

Virgin will be making some changes to their plans, both to the Smartphone plans and the Prepaid offerings. The Smartphone plans are eligible for Virgin’s BYOP (Bring Your Own Phone) and for the Prepaid, as usual, offer Unlimited Incoming Texts, Voicemail, Call Display, Call Forwarding, Call Waiting, and 3-way calling. There’s also some new Add-on features and we’re getting those for you roo, but for now here’s the complete list that will go live in a couple days:

Virgin Mobile says the HTC One S will be ready for “activation in-stores and online on Thursday, May 17, 2012″

Yesterday Virgin Mobile went live with the registration for the upcoming HTC One S – an Android OS 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich device that has Beats Audio integrated into it. The terms and conditions of their contest page says that it has a retail value of $600, but somehow I didn’t see the line before it, which clearly states the possible release date: “Each prize consists of an HTC One S smartphone from Virgin Mobile, which will be available for activation in-stores and online on Thursday, May 17, 2012.”

Of course release dates can change at any moment. So there you go… we’ll have more info soon!

Virgin “Tester Team” looking for 5 people to test out the HTC One S

Virgin has opened up their registration page for the OS 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, Beats Audio, HTC One S. This is expected to launch in the next few weeks and now those lovely Virgin Angels are giving you an opportunity to join their “Tester Team.” For those unfamiliar with this “perk,” Virgin opens up a pre-release device to 5 Virgin Mobile members to test out and report back to the masses on their experience. This time around those who want to participate will have to agree to the long terms and conditions, then communicate “in 100 words or less why you’d be an awesome Virgin Mobile phone tester”. The new Tester program starts today “and ends on May 10, 2012 at 11:59 a.m. (ET)”… which could possibly be the launch date.

Virgin Mobile goes live with HTC One S registration page, says it retails for $600

Virgin has just gone live with a registration page for the upcoming HTC One S. No word on the actual release date, but Virgin insists that if you give your info to them you’ll be “the first to know when the HTC One S is available.” A contest has also been set up where two One S will be given to Canadians (excluding those in Quebec) – the terms and conditions reveals the possible pricing as it states the “Retail value of each prize is Cdn $600.00.”

The One S comes with Android OS 4.0, Sense 4.0, 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 960×540, 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, 8MP that shoots 1080p HD videos, a 1.3MP front-facing camera and is only 7.95 mm thin.

Virgin Mobile to release the Motorola MOTOLUXE?

Motorola devices have been relatively quiet over the past few months in Canada. Nothing has been released since the new RAZR, which ended up in both Rogers and Fido’s lineup. Now, if this screenshot is correct, it looks like the Motorola MOTOLUXE is heading to Virgin Mobile. An case has popped up in their inventory system with a price of $22.99. No word yet on a release date or pricing for the device, but the MOTOLUXE is an Android-powered smartphone that runs OS 2.3, has a 4-inch display (480 x 854), 800Mhz processor, 1 GB ROM, 512 MB RAM and an 8 MP camera.

Virgin to introduce the “BYOP Virgin Mobile SuperTab”

The BYOP (bring your own phone) or BYOD (bring your own device) trend is something the carriers have been quietly promoting over the last several months – offering up a free SIM for those who sign up on a contract/month-to-month. Virgin Mobile has devised a plan to capitalize on this BYOP phenomena and created the “BYOP Virgin Mobile SuperTab.”

This new program will start April 15th and here’s how it’ll work. A Member (customer) can bring their own device to Virgin, get a free SIM, and at the end of each month Virgin will take 10% of the total bill and add it to their SuperTab balance, up to a total of 500. This running total can be put towards the purchase of a new phone where “members get faster upgrades.”

In addition, there’s a couple other important notes. First, Existing Members on the Virgin Mobile SuperTab won’t be able to upgrade to the new BYOP Virgin Mobile SuperTab program. According to the internal doc we received it states that “However, if a Member goes from a term agreement to the BYOP Virgin Mobile SuperTab, cancellation charges will apply if applicable. If a Member wants to buy a phone from Virgin Mobile and go on the BYOP SuperTab, the purchase must be made on the 30 Day Term and then the Member should be upgraded to the BYOP SuperTab.”
