Videotron comes out with a $55/month plan that includes Unlimited talk, text and 3GB data

Quebec-based Videotron has released a respectable promo plan. The “Unlimited Voice and Data 55″ costs $54.95/month and has unlimited calling and texts, plus packs in 3GB data and voicemail/caller display/call waiting. Here’s the full details:

- Unlimited anytime local calling
- Unlimited long-distance calls to Canada and the US
- Unlimited text messaging (text, photo and video)
- Call Display
- Voicemail (up to 35 voicemails)
- Call Waiting and Conference Calls
- 3 GB data add-on
- Promotion: 5-hour illico mobile plan free for 12 months
- 3 month subscription to ZIK Mobile music service

With all the new devices that have been launched, or will be launching in the next couple weeks, this is certainly something to consider.

Videotron revamps monthly plans to include Caller ID, Voicemail and Unlimited texts

Quebec-based Videotron has revamped their monthly plans today to include Caller ID, Voicemail and Unlimited texts. The plans now start off at $19.95 and rise to $49.95 for some sort of talk, text and data – if you need more data they have a few data add-ons. Below is the complete list of new monthly plans:

VOICE 20 ($19.95/month):
- 100 daytime minutes
- Unlimited messages (text, photo, video)
- Call Display
- Voicemail
- Call Waiting and Conference Calling

VOICE 25 ($24.95/month):
- Unlimited local evening and weekend calls from 6 p.m.1
- 100 daytime minutes
- Unlimited messages (text, photo, video)
- Call Display
- Voicemail
- Call Waiting and Conference Calling

UNLIMITED VOICE 35 ($35.95/month):
- Unlimited anytime local calling
- Unlimited messages (text, photo, video)
- Call Display
- Voicemail
- Call Waiting and Conference Calling

UNLIMITED VOICE + DATA 40 ($39.95/month):
- Unlimited local evening and weekend calls from 6 p.m.1
- 100 daytime minutes

UNLIMITED VOICE + DATA 50 ($49.95/month):

At last count Videotron had a total of 402,600 subscribers on their wireless network. In addition, the company will be adding the new BlackBerry Z10 and the Sony Xperia Zl in the coming weeks.

Videotron Samsung Galaxy Nexus upgrade to Jelly Bean now available

An update to Jelly Bean is now available for Videotron Galaxy Nexus users today. This is version 4.2.1 and you should have received a notification, but it not, press Menu >> Settings >> About device >> Software update >> Update.

Videotron follows Eastlink and makes Nexus 4 Bumper in White available, costs $20

Halifax-based Eastlink launched their wireless service a few weeks ago and offered up the Nexus 4. Along with this it seems they were the first carrier in Canada to sell the Nexus 4 Bumper in White. This accessory has not even made its way into Google Play. Another Canadian carrier has made the Nexus 4 Bumper in white available, this time it’s Quebec based Videotron. The price is $5 cheaper at $19.95. Hopefully this is a sign that the Nexus 4 in white will be available soon.

Videotron releases the HTC 8S

The HTC One is getting prepared for its Canadian debut in a few weeks, but before this gets the official green light HTC is content with bringing its devices from last year to smaller Canadian carriers. The Windows Phone 8S is now available at Quebec-based Videotron. The price is respectable at $14.95 on a “Reduced price,” but unfortuntatey wins the high card for the priciest no-term cost at $349.95.

As for specs, this entry-level Windows Phone 8 device has a 4-inch Super LCD display (480 x 800), 1Ghz dual-core processor, 5MP Camera, 1700mAh battery and is about 10mm thin.

Videotron taking on Netflix, launching $9.99/month “illico Club Unlimited” video on demand service

Quebec-based Videotron is growing their media footprint by announcing illico Club Unlimited. This is a Netflix-like service that will officially launch on February 23rd “throughout Québec and Ontario.” The subscription is $9.99/month and to ramp up subs they’re offering up the first month free. As for compatible mobile devices, Videotron noted in their press release that this is availale on the new “illico.tv app for Android tablets.” No word yet on any other platforms, such as iPad, BlackBerry 10 or Windows Phone. In addition, customers can also access illico Club Unlimited via a TV or computer.

As for the content, illico Club Unlimited will mainly offer French-language content from the latest movies, TV shows (including kids shows) and documentaries. They’ve managed to secure content rights from Sony, MGM, CBS, Films Seville, TVA Films and Alliance and highlight such titles as Les Boys 2, Spider Man 3, The Social Network, Open Season, Salt, Dexter, Musée Eden, Diana Krall Live in Paris and Dans une galaxie près de chez vous.

Videotron price drops Nexus 4 by $50 on contract

Perhaps love is in the air, or maybe it’s because Canadians have several options to score a Nexus 4. Quebec-based Videotron was first out of the gate in Canada to release the Google Nexus 4 and slotted it in at $149.95 on a ‘reduced price,’ or $499.95 outright. Now a couple weeks later the pure flagship Android has been priced dropped by $50 to $99.95. The Nexus 4 recently became available via Google Play and also found its way to Fido and WIND, plus coming soon to Virgin Mobile.

Videotron launching the Nexus 4 on January 30th

Quebec-based carrier Videotron just announced on Twitter that the Google Nexus 4 will be available on their network on January 30th, but have kept the price points a secret. They noted “It is January 30th that Google Nexus 4 will be available at Videotron. Are you ready?”

Videotron will be the first Canadian carrier to release this pure Android. No indication yet from other carriers if this will be hitting their stores. Check out our full Nexus 4 review here.

Nexus 4 “coming soon” to Videotron

Boom. You can’t buy Google’s LG Nexus 4 online, but if you’re interested in scoring this pure Android device you best be heading to Quebec! I just received an email from regional carrier Videotron that they’ll be launching the Nexus 4 “soon.” No prices or dates, just that they “will be first carrier in Canada to release the latest addition to the Nexus line.” Amazing. Full email below:

“The acclaimed Nexus 4 from Google will soon be coming to Videotron. It runs on Google’s latest operating system, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, and features a host of exciting new functionalities. Videotron will be first carrier in Canada to release the latest addition to the Nexus line and offer its customers the most advanced technology. More details soon.”

Presumably this means other Canadian carriers will be releasing the Nexus 4.

Videotron releases the LG F4N, otherwise known as “The Little Phone That Could”

Entry-level week is continuing in Canada. First was Fido with the ZTE F160 and now it’s Quebec-regional carrier Videotron offering up “The Little Phone That Could.” If you want to swing back to the mid-1990′s then the LG F4N is perfect for you. It’s a solid prepaid device that’s priced at $149.95 outright (or $0 on a 3-year), has a 1.3MP camera, flips open and closed and has a small dial pad so you’ll experience a bit of frustration while texting, thankfully there’s a “Text to Speech” mode. Probably good for the seniors out there.
