HTC One now available at SaskTel

One of the most beautiful smartphones ever created has arrived at regional carrier SaskTel. The Android-powered HTC One and its all-aluminum design can now be purchased – it’s the same pricing as competing carriers at $149.99 on a 3-year and increases to $649.99 outright. The LTE-enabled One has runs Jelly Bean, has a 4.7inch display, 1.7Ghz quad-core processor, 4MP UltraPixel camera that shoots 1080p videos (with HTC Zoe), plus has BlinkFeed and BoomSound. Overall, a solid addition.

SaskTel to release the HTC One, says “it’s coming!”

When HTC unveiled the One they declared that the flagship Android would be available on Rogers, Bell, TELUS and Virgin Mobile. These carriers announced plans to release the 4.7-inch device on April 19th. So far Rogers is the only one who’s come out with a contract price, currently set at $149.99. You can expect the no-term to be around $650.

Saskatchewan-based SaskTel took to Twitter to inform the masses that the HTC One will arrive on their lineup soon. “SaskTel will be carrying the HTC One! We originally did not plan to carry it, so we are very excited to announce that it’s coming!” No word on when, hopefully by the 19th.

Basic flip phone Samsung S275 released by SaskTel

There’s probably many calculated reasons why several carriers added the simple flip phone Samsung S275 to their lineup. This device is not for the 70% of Canadians who are using a smartphone, but for those first time users, seniors, or anyone who wants a basic talk and text device with no bells or whistles. The S275 was just released by SaskTel and is priced to sell at $100 outright.

SaskTel skips the latest BlackBerry 10 OS update, says “it will have a negative impact on the roaming capabilities”

Seems like there’s a kerfuffle brewing in Saskatchewan. While most Canadian carriers have pushed out the latest BlackBerry 10 update – version 10.0.10.85 – SaskTel has decided to shun the idea of this needed update. According to a post on their community forum SaskTel says their decision to forgo the Z10 upgrade is because “it will have a negative impact on the roaming capabilities.”

No further details on what this roaming negativity is – perhaps dropped calls, signal loss – but SaskTel says they’re working with BlackBerry and will bring the next OS release sometime “late April.” Although SaskTel says v10.0.10.85 addressed “minor fixes,” it did bring a fix for the battery life, camera and browser improvements, plus performance improvements for 3rd party apps.

SaskTel also price drops the iPhone 5

The iPhone 5 is on sale in Canada and there’s no sign of the rumoured “iPhone 5S” launch in sight. Earlier this week majority of carriers – Bell, TELUS, Rogers, Virgin and Fido – all dropped the price by about $80. This made the iPhone 5 16GB hit $99 on a 3-year, plus the 32GB and 64GB versions also fell to $149 and $199. It now seems the trend has shifted west to Saskatchewan where regional carrier SaskTel has also lowered the iPhone 5 prices. Apparently these will be in place until March 18th.

SaskTel rolling out Jelly Bean update to HTC One S users

Similar to Bell, Virgin, TELUS it’s now regional Saskatchewan carrier SaskTel to push out the Jelly Bean update for the HTC One S. Arriving on users devices should be Android OS 4.1.1. with a total size of 643.92MB. As usual, if you’ve yet to receive a notification, check Menu >> Settings >> About device >> Software update >> Update.

Samsung ATIV S arrives at SaskTel

SaskTel’s first Windows Phone 8 device has finally arrived. The Samsung ATIV S was “coming soon” for the past couple months but is now ready to get a hold of and take on SaskTel’s new LTE network speeds. The ATIV S has a similar design to the widely popular Galaxy S III, but has a brushed aluminum casing. You can have a read over our ATIV S review here — SaskTel has priced the 4.8-inch WP8 device the same as the other carriers at $129.99 on a 3-year and rises to $599.99 outright.

SaskTel goes live with LTE

SaskTel has been releasing LTE-capable devices for a number of months. This was all a lead up to their inevitable LTE network launch, which was originally targeted to go live late 2012. Today, however, is a new day and LTE speeds are running through SaskTel’s coverage area.

In a press release SaskTel announced that LTE speeds could “reach speeds of 100 Mbps,” but you’ll probably see it average out around 20 Mbps to 30 Mbps, is currently available in Regina, Saskatoon, Clavet, Dundurn, Langham, Lumsden, Martensville, Osler, Pense, Vanscoy, Warman, and White City. In addition, SaskTel will continue expanding their LTE coverage this year and invest another $5.2 million go live in Dalmeny, Balgonie, Estevan, Moose Jaw, North Battleford, Prince Albert, Swift Current, Weyburn and Yorkton.

The LTE-enabled devices that SaskTel currently have in their lineup are the LG Optimus G, Samsung Galaxy S III, Samsung Galaxy Note II, Samsung Galaxy Rugby LTE, Samsung ATIV S, Novatel MC679, iPhone 5 and the upcoming BlackBerry Z10.

SaskTel prices the Samsung ATIV S, launching soon

Samsung’s lone Windows Phone 8 – the ATIV S – launched in Canada on December 14th on Bell, TELUS and Rogers.

SaskTel, Saskatchewan’s regional carrier, has always promised to bring this thin, Galaxy S III, looking device to their lineup, but it’s been listed “coming soon” for the last 6 weeks. Today we’re one step closer as they’ve pricing on their website. If you’re thinking about scoring this WP8 device it’ll cost you between $129.99 on a 3-year to $599.99 outright – basically the same as the other carriers.

SaskTel says BlackBerry 10 is “coming soon”

Saskatchewan regional carrier SaskTel is the latest Canadian carrier to inform the masses that “BlackBerry 10 is coming soon” to their network. Unlike Rogers, Bell, TELUS and Virgin, SaskTel has no place to pre-register online, but this is a good indication that the all-touch device will be available on launch day. SaskTel has a dedicated page that highlights several BB10 features such as the BlackBerry Browser, Camera with Time Shift, BlackBerry Hub and the BlackBerry Keyboard.

RIM will officially be unveiling their new BlackBerry 10 OS and two new BlackBerry 10 devices on January 30th. We can expect to see one all-touch (currently going by the code name of the Z10) and one touch/QWERTY (currently going by the code name of the X10).
