Over the past few weeks the Samsung Galaxy Nexus has seen a slight price drop from $159.99 to $99.99 on a 3-year term at Best Buy, this was for all carriers (Rogers, Fido, Bell and TELUS). However, now that the device has been out for a few weeks we’ll see the price continue to fall – point being this flyer that shows Rogers and Fido will sink to a new Canadian low of $49.99 on a 3/yr term. We’ll soon be at $0, folks. If interested, this starts on Friday and Best Buy states that there are Limited quantities. No rainchecks.”

As for the no-contract price point, you can expect it to be around the $700 range. A sign of slight progress as Rogers employees have started their training on the phone/tablet. Although the above screenshot says the device is available, it’s not, but the training does go through the S Pen and the general features of the Android device. Also, we’re also hearing that the upgrade to OS 4.0 will be available to Canadians before May.

Effective tomorrow Rogers will be rolling out their new Ultimate Unlimited Family plans. From the looks of it there are now 2 of them, both come with unlimited local talk and the “extreme” text messaging. Here are the pricing and features for both:

Voice & Messaging:
- Unlimited Local Talk
- Unlimited Extreme Text Messaging
- Unlimited Picture and Video Messaging
- Unlimited Canada-Wide Member to Member calling
- Unlimited Canada-Wide Talk and Text from your computer with Rogers One Number
- No voicemail or Caller ID
Add on options: $10 Unlimited Canada-wide calling per line
$95.94/month with a 3 year activation (2 lines)
$27.97 Add A Line

Voice & Data:
- Unlimited Local Talk
- Unlimited Extreme Text Messaging
- Unlimited Picture and Video Messaging
- Unlimited Canada-Wide Member to Member calling
- Unlimited Canada-Wide Talk and Text from your computer with Rogers One Number
- 2 GB of Shared Data
- No voicemail or Caller ID
Add on options: $10 Unlimited Canada-wide calling per line
$140.94/month with a 3 year activation (2 lines)
$37.97 Add A Line

Reading over the doc, since this is an unlimited plan, Rogers states that “Overage is eliminated” and that customers who’ll sign up for this will have “Peace of mind that they won’t have a huge monthly bill”. In addition, you’ll receive “One bill for their family’s wireless services” and this also come with some BOGO device options (Buy One, Get One) is actually buy one get up to four at $0.

Rogers seems to be going hard on all these offerings. Earlier today they announced a change in the pricing of their LTE plans, plus as you can see on this internal doc they are going after all the other Unlimited plans that “other” carriers have. Rogers now says that “Customers can truly say goodbye to those other cellphone providers.”

RedBoard also has some info here
The deal is that the trial period is simply extended to 6-months. We’re told that the promo started today and will go until March 30th and all you have to do is download the BBM Music app. This is not listed on their site, but we’ve confirmed this promo with Rogers. So go ahead and download the app here from BlackBerry App World.

It’s official. Canada’s first Windows Phone device in well over a year is now on sale – the Nokia Lumia 710 is available. Although it’s not yet appeared on the Rogers site, Nokia Canada sent us a note saying that “The wait is finally over! Today, the new Nokia Lumia 710 has arrived in Canada and is available exclusively from Rogers”.

Various Rogers locations already started selling this affordable device earlier this week. As revealed a few days ago, the 710 can be yours on the following – very impressive – pricing: $49.99 on a 3-year; 2-year is $99.99, 1-year $149.99 and outright price for $254.99.

We’ll have our full review up shortly and will update the site when Rogers puts it online, but stores should have this in stock.

Update: The Lumia 710 is now live on the Rogers site here.

To-date Nokia has sold 1 million Lumia smartphones and we’ll soon see our Canadian carriers add to the numbers. It’s been a very long trek for Windows Phone 7 handsets in Canada. There hasn’t been a new model since October 2010… but both Rogers and TELUS are on tap to change that. Rogers will be releasing the Lumia 710 and TELUS will be releasing the Lumia 800. A few weeks back we let you know that the Lumia 900 was en route and now we’re hearing from several sources that you can expect to see this heading straight for Rogers. No details on prices, but the launch is tentatively scheduled to be happening this May.

(Thanks tipsters!)

Rogers LG Optimus 3D users will be excited to know that the long awaited upgrade to OS 2.3 Gingerbread is happening on February 1st. LG sent us a note stated the existing owners will be able to update via the LG support site here, plus any new customers who purchase the Android will have the new OS (version 2.3.5) already pre-loaded. As for OS 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, LG previously stated we can expect this sometime in Q3.

There seems to be a bunch of great additions to the upgrade, specifically for the 3D options, along with a better battery life and data speeds. LG sent us the full change log and we’ll do a review shortly. In the meantime, here’s what you can expect to see:

Enhanced HSPA+ Network Speed
• Faster data speeds from 14 Mbs to 21 Mbs

Enriched 3D Experience
• Improved video playback in 2D and 3D
• 3D Video Editor with the abilitu to create new projects (Video timeline, Adding video clips, images and sound and Cropping and trimming length)
• 2D to 3D conversion for videos and images
• 3D to 2D conversion supports both images and videos
• Easy to convert Open-GL games from 2D to 3D—Most apps are built on the Open-GL platform which is an open, standardized language for writing apps.

Improved Multimedia
• Improved video recording quality to 12 Mbs HD
• Improved battery life with low-power modes during music playback
• Video stabilization support for both 2D and 3D
• Upgraded sound quality with Dolby Mobile Effect when a user has the ear jack/BT Headset (Stereo)
• Improved camera loading and switching time from 2.5 seconds to 1 second
• Improved 3D depth with 720p camera

We’ve seen the complete price list for the Rogers Nokia Lumia 710 – a shockingly low $255 outright. The estimated release date was tentatively set for February 6th, but we are getting reports from across the country that stores have received stock and allowed to start selling them (nothing is yet live on the Rogers site). It’s certainly nice finally to see a fresh Windows Phone in Canada! Who’s buying?

More soon!
(Thanks tipster!)

And just like that Rogers LTE network now reaches 11 million Canadians. Rogers announced today that they have expanded their LTE coverage area in Montreal to now reach Laval, Terrebonne, Brossard, Longueuil and Vaudreuil. In addition, Rogers will be continuing their LTE expansion plans to reach “25 additional cities this year”. No word on what the other cities are, but their goal is to see LTE coverage reach 20 million customers “by the end of 2012″.

Rogers was first to launch LTE (Long Term Evolution) in Canada and brought peek download speeds that could potentially hit 150 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 70 Mbps (realistically it’s around 30 Mbps). LTE coverage is currently available in surrounding areas of Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto and Vancouver.

First it was TELUS that announced plans to release the Samsung Galaxy Note, then Bell and finally Rogers. We were just sent a note from our friends at Rogers that stated “Rogers will be expanding its LTE lineup this February by adding the Samsung Galaxy Note. Customers can reserve the device using the Rogers Reservation System and searching under “Special Orders”. No word on pricing for them, but as it noted it’ll be open for early reservations wich you’ll most likely have to drop down $40.
