PC Mobile releases the Android Samsung Galaxy 550, fruit not included

PC Mobile has seen the light and released their first Android smartphone. The Samsung Galaxy 550 first made an appearance Virgin then SaskTel… but PC has the cheapest price around for $99 prepaid. Main features of the 550 are that it comes with Android OS 2.1, 2.8-inch touchscreen display and a 2 megapixel camera. Decent price, no sign of an OS update coming, but PC also includes $10 start up credit, Free call display, call waiting & call forwarding… they also have a $45.20 plan that includes 250MB data.

PC Mobile comes out with 3 “Unlimited” plans (make sure you read the fine print)

PC Mobile announced today they are “launching a menu of UNLIMITED monthly plans”. This, at first read, is good news especially since PC is all prepaid. Carriers have all been about offering up some sort of “Unlimited” plan to their customers. This became really apparent when the new entrants (Wind, Public and Mobilicity) came out with their Unlimited talk, text and data plans.

Sandra Daniel, senior director, PC Telecom said that “starting this month, shoppers will have new flavours of UNLIMITED talk, text and tweet options to choose from”. True, what Daniel says is that they now have 3 plans that have a hint of Unlimited-ness” involved in them. PC created 3 plans: $15, $25 and $35 and you have to read the fine print to make sure you know what you’re getting.

PC Mobile plans have always come with Call Display, Voicemail, Call Waiting, Call Forwarding and 3-way Calling. The details of the basic $15 Unlimited plan is that it includes Unlimited calling/texting between you and anyone else who has a PC Mobile phone and also serves up unlimited texts. That’s it. Additional calling minutes will cost 35¢/min. As for the $25 plan, basically the same of the $15 but they are throwing in 100 anytime minutes. Finally, the $35 plan is the same again but PC is giving 150 anytime minutes and free evenings and weekends starting at 7PM (plus giving 1-month free). Certainly not the most attractive “unlimited” plans out there so make sure you do your complete research on the fine print. If going Prepaid is your thing there are carriers out there who have low-lost devices and offer similar/better Unlimited plans.

Hopefully PC will be adding some new phones (preferably smartphones) to their lineup soon too as the current lineup is a bit outdated, even for Prepaid.

LG Flick now available at PC Mobile

The entry level LG Flick might not be for everyone but there is one thing for certain if you’re looking for an economical Prepaid device. Bell, Virgin and SaskTel all have this device but it’s PC Mobile who just released this for the cheapest price in Canada at $99 no-contract. As for specs, the Flick has a 2.8-inch touchscreen, virtual QWERTY keyboard, 2 megapixel camera with video capabilities and PC is also throwing in a $10 start-up credit.

Nokia 7230 finds it way to PC Mobile

Coming off the launch of the newly created Loblaws “The Mobile Shop”, PC Mobile has released what seems to be their first SIM card capable device – the Nokia 7230. Specs are still basic and so is the no-contract price. The 7230 comes with a 2.4-inch display (resolution of 240 x 320), 3.2 megapixel camera with video capabilities, media player, 3.5mm headset jack, FM Radio. This will cost you $79 outright but comes with a $10 start-up credit, plus free call display, free incoming text messages, voicemail, call waiting, call forwarding and 3-way calling.

Good deal for prepaid.

PC Mobile starts cleaning house, “Limited quantities available”

PC Mobile might not be your first choice when it comes to purchasing a mobile device. They started reselling Bell Mobility devices and plans back in 1995 and if you take a look at their website you’ll notice that most of the devices have been slashed in price and been stamped with a “Limited quantities available”. There are some good deals if you’re looking for a Prepaid device.

This could be the first step of them cleaning house and getting rid of inventory… and on a path to bring in one of the carriers to open a retail location within Loblaws stores.

PC Mobile offers up LG Rumour 2 for $79

If you’re looking for a deal on a decent QWERTY device, PC Mobile is offering up the LG Rumour 2 for $79 no-contract (regular price is $99). This is a promo that’s on until September 30th 2010. To compare, Solo has this available for $109 and Bell has this for $129.95 no-contract.

Samsung Entro hits PC Mobile for $109, cheaper than Bell and Solo

PC Mobile has just released the slide out QWERTY Samsung Entro. This is a decent deal if you’re looking for a prepaid device as it’ll only cost you $109 (you also get a $10 start up credit). Specs of the Entro has this with a 2.6-inch touchscreen display (resolution of 240×320), 1.3 megapixel camera, Music player and can hold up to 32 GB with a microSD card.

On a good note this is cheaper than getting the Entro from both Bell or Solo. Bell has this on a prepaid for $129.95
and over at Solo it goes for $149.99. So if this is the device for you it’s worth shopping around.

PC Mobile releases LG Rumour 2

If you’re looking for a Prepaid device, PC Mobile just released the LG Rumour 2. This is a solid messaging device that has a full slide out QWERTY keyboard. This could be yours on a couple options: Bundle Box that includes a Bluetooth headset and car charger for $129, or just the phone for $99. Decent pricing for a device that was first released in Canada about a year ago.

PC Mobile promo offers up first month free

PC Mobile is jumping in on the first month free promotions. Today they have released a new offer that goes until June 26th that basically gives you a free month of service. In order to get this you’ll have to sign up for the Flex Plan 25 plan then PC “will increase your start-up credit to cover the cost for the first month”.

Might be something to consider if you’re thinking about going on a prepaid account.

Samsung R330 now available at PC Mobile

PC Mobile has joined other carriers and launched the Samsung R330. This is available outright for $69 or can come in a Bundle form with a Bluetooth headset and vehicle power adapter for $99.

The R330 is a flip phone that has all your basic needs: phone book, alarm clock, calculator, speakerphone, large one-touch dial keys, 1.3 megapixel camera, 2.5mm headset jack and has overall dimensions of 3.5 x 1.9 x 0.7-inches (weight of 90 grams)
